Job Description:

We are hiring a Lead Frontend Engineer with expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, React.js, and Next.js to join our growing engineering team. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer ready to drive end-to-end delivery, mentor developers, and make architectural decisions that scale across teams and regions. You will report to the CMS Technical Director.

You will have an in-depth understanding of React, Next.js, CSS, and HTML. Experience utilizing technologies like Vercel, Storybook, Node, and Sitecore are preferred along with a strong desire and ability to develop both performant and accessible experiences. We strive to find technical leaders who have a passion for frontend technologies. This passion is reflected in the quality of work we deliver and the foundation for the rich and engaging frontend community we all benefit from. A natural curiosity to explore new technology and the determination and strength to rise to challenges are attributes that resonate well on our team. It is imperative, as a technical leader within our frontend discipline, that you find enjoyment in empowering your teams and the greater front-end community, sharing knowledge, advocating for quality and best practices, and a personal desire to invest in your own knowledge base and skills.

This is a remote role. Employees within 90 min of our NY, MI, or IL offices may expect 1 day a week onsite.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will develop & maintain high-performance web applications using Next.js, React, and TypeScript.

  • You will implement responsive, pixel-perfect UI components based on design system guidelines.

  • You will integrate APIs (GraphQL, REST) and optimize CRUD operations for performance and scalability.

  • You will work with headless CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful, Sitecore, Optimizely) for content management and personalization.

  • You will ensure cross-browser compatibility, web accessibility (WCAG standards), and SEO best practices.

  • You will collaborate with UI/UX designers, backend engineers, and product teams to build intuitive, frictionless experiences.

  • You will optimize performance through Lighthouse audits, caching strategies, and Core Web Vitals improvements.

  • You will write clean, well-documented, and testable code, following modern best practices.

  • You will conduct code reviews, contribute to technical discussions, and mentor junior developers.

  • You will work in an Agile/Scrum environment, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and stand-ups.

  • You will collaborate with frontend architects to understand overall technical vision of projects and communicate to greater frontend development team.

  • You will review frontend code through pull requests and enforce best practices and adherence to technical vision.

  • You will review project requirements for technical feasibility.

  • You will collaborate with business analysts to break down large features for consumption by development team.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 7+ years of front-end development experience focusing on JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Next.js and React.js in production.

  • Advanced CSS skills, including CSS Modules, SCSS, PostCSS, and responsive design principles.

  • API Integration & CRUD Operations: Expertise in RESTful APIs and GraphQL.

  • Strong background in Sitecore, Contentful, Sanity, Optimizely, or similar headless CMS platforms.

  • Experience with headless architecture and the Server-Client Rendering Spectrum.

  • Web Performance & Optimization: Experience with Lighthouse, Core Web Vitals, caching strategies, and performance monitoring.

  • Proficiency in Jest, Cypress, Playwright, and UI testing strategies.

  • Experience with Git (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket), automated testing, and cloud deployments (Vercel, AWS, Netlify, or Cloudflare Pages).

  • Experience in modular web development, using Atomic Design and Storybook.

  • In-depth knowledge of browser/client discrepancies and supported features.

  • In-depth knowledge of website performance considerations and performance tooling.

  • In-depth knowledge of accessibility and WCAG standards.

  • Ability to estimate and complete work in a deadline-driven environment.
