About Gatsby

Gatsby is modernizing how enterprises manage executive relationships and event workflows. Used by leaders in venture capital, finance, enterprise, and nonprofits, Gatsby replaces disjointed planning tools with a streamlined, intelligent event CRM platform that powers everything from personalized invites to real-time guest tracking.

Gatsby customers organized over 1,000 events in 2023 and sent 125,000+ communications through the platform — growing 10x year-over-year. With an ambitious roadmap ahead, we’re expanding from events into broader relationship workflows like recruiting, sales, and executive communications.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Lead Frontend Engineer to shape the future of our core product experience. This is a high-impact role where you’ll drive architecture, set engineering standards, and deliver elegant, high-performance interfaces that power mission-critical workflows for our customers. You'll be our frontend technical leader and a key partner to design, product, and leadership.

If you’re excited to architect from first principles, mentor others, and bring design to life in a fast-moving startup, this role is for you.

What You'll Do
  • Own and evolve the frontend architecture across our customer- and internal-facing products

  • Collaborate with Product and Design to deliver pixel-perfect, intuitive, and performant user experiences

  • Lead the development of our component system and UI tooling (e.g., Storybook), helping us scale design consistency and speed

  • Set the standard for frontend excellence — driving code quality, testing practices, and system performance

  • Mentor fellow engineers, share knowledge, and build a strong frontend culture

  • Balance execution speed with technical debt management, scalability, and maintainability

  • Work cross-functionally to scope projects, prioritize enhancements, and improve developer velocity

Gatsby Tech Stack

From front to back for core pathways:

  • React

  • styled-components

  • GraphQL (deprecating) / REST / WebSockets

  • Node

  • Redis / MongoDB / Postgres

  • Terraform / EKS

What You Have

The ideal candidate will have many of the below:

  • 5+ years of experience building modern SaaS web applications

  • Deep experience with React, including building and maintaining reusable component systems

  • A thoughtful approach to performance, accessibility, and scalable design patterns

  • Experience creating custom React Hooks, design token systems, and theming

  • Comfort working closely with designers and product managers to shape user experiences

  • An ability to guide and mentor other engineers — technical leadership experience is a plus

  • A bias toward action, with a desire to take ownership and drive meaningful outcomes

  • Curiosity and passion for startups, user-facing software, and high-quality UI

  • Experience creating highly performant UI

  • Intellectual curiosity in business, investing, technology, and design

  • Entrepreneurial mindset

  • Inclination to solve underlying or hidden problems

Bonus Points
  • React Native or hybrid mobile development experience; understanding the trade-offs between mobile and web UI performance

  • Built and maintained complex UIs like page builders, visual editors, or large-scale table components

  • Experience with WebGL, Canvas, or advanced charting/visualization libraries (e.g. seating chart builders, map tools)

  • Deep understanding of performance and state management in highly interactive apps

  • Testing UIs at multiple levels (unit, integration, E2E) with Jest, Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright

  • Experience implementing real-time features using WebSockets or similar patterns (e.g., live updates, collaborative editing, presence indicators)

  • Experience building WYSIWYG editors with Prosemirror with a focus on email html compatibility

Why Gatsby
  • A tight-knit, high-caliber team of builders and operators

  • Opportunity to help shape a fast-growing company and product

  • Ownership and visibility across product, customers, and internal stakeholders

  • Backed by top-tier investors and growing fast
