When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do - but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here - we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
Cat Digital is the digital and technology arm of Caterpillar Inc., leveraging the latest technologies to build industry leading digital solutions for our customers and dealers. With over 1.5 million connected assets worldwide, our teams use data, technology, advanced analytics, telematics, and AI capabilities to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world.
Job Summary:
If you enjoy challenging and complex work, have a strong desire to be a part of something new that will set the foundation for a best-in-class digital shopping experience at Caterpillar, and want to work with a team passionate about eCommerce, this is the opportunity for you.
Caterpillar is looking for an experienced eCommerce Product Owner to join our digital product management team within Cat Integrated Procurement (Cat IP), shaping the future of how we best support our largest customers. In this role you will be responsible for critical B2B eCommerce capabilities such as the Parts Catalog, Order and Invoice transaction types. This includes the Punchout Experience - Part Identification, Shopping Cart and Checkout. You will be an advocate and bring passion and empathy for helping some of the hardest working people on the planet - Cat customers and dealers.
You will work closely with business partners and the global dealer network to drive a frictionless shopping experience. This will be accomplished by first seeking to understand our customers' needs and workflow, including voice of customer and performance analytics, as well as our business objectives. You will then lead initiatives to translate those needs into compelling experiences to shape the agenda for the Product Team with the direct goal of increasing channel sales and customer adoption.
Your job is to help our customers do their job better - building a better world in the process!
What You Will Do:
  • Manage the lifecycle of a product by leading multidisciplinary teams and providing vision on what is to be built, domain knowledge, and direction in alignment with Cat's goals
  • Take ownership for the success and quality of your product
  • Manage complex initiatives with high value to the organization, including prioritization, roadmap definition, and elaboration of epics and features
  • Represent the customer, interfacing and engaging directly with customers to develop deep understanding of their processes (triggers, steps, roles, outcomes)
  • Help frame and plan new opportunities - articulating the problem or opportunity to be addressed, the impact, and assumptions and risks to be considered/mitigated
  • Build tight collaboration and understanding of stakeholder needs and business goals - at times facilitating solutioning and brainstorming activities to transform broad ideas and concepts into clear goal alignment and desired customer requirements/experiences
  • Lead definition of major experience elements - covering the logic, structure, skeleton, and relationships of how an experience should come together

What You Will Have:
  • Software Product Business Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of and experience with the business aspects and operation of a software product; ability to manage install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision.
  • Business Analysis: Extensive knowledge of business analysis and the set of tasks, techniques and tools required to identify business needs; ability to recommend solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.
  • Software Change Request Management: Extensive experience of software change request management; ability to manage software product change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.
  • Effective Communications: Extensive understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive experience of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Considerations for Top Candidates:
  • Typically, a four-year Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science, information systems, marketing, engineering or related field
  • Expertise in digital product management, user experience, user research, digital strategy, or related function (typically 5+ years)
