T-Rex Solutions is seeking a Junior Software Developer in support of our US Census Bureau customer as we begin development on the 2030 Decennial Census. As a Junior Software Develope, you will take part in developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality software applications that support our clients’ business objectives. Working closely with experienced developers, analysts, and delivery leads, you’ll gain exposure to a range of digital solutions in an environment that values curiosity, teamwork, and continuous improvement. This position is ideal for someone with foundational programming knowledge and a drive to build technical expertise in a supportive setting. Work will be performed on-site at least 2 days per week at the Census Bureau facilities in Suitland, MD with the remainder being remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of software components and applications, using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to deliver reliable, efficient, and maintainable solutions.
  • Contribute to both front-end and back-end development tasks as part of cross-functional project teams.
  • Document code, technical decisions, and application changes as part of our knowledge management process.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, designers, and testers throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure quality and alignment with requirements.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to learn new technologies and development practices through mentoring, training, and self-study.
  • Support bug fixing, enhancements, and deployment of new features under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Champion an inclusive, positive, and team-oriented culture where diverse perspectives and learning are valued.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Must be a U.S. citizen eligible for government background investigation
  • Fundamental knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, or similar.
  • Understanding of software development principles, including version control (e.g., Git), object-oriented design, and code testing.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Motivation to learn, adapt, and address new tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies, web development, databases, or cloud technologies is an advantage but not essential.
  • Commitment to an inclusive, respectful, and supportive workplace culture.

In compliance with pay transparency guidelines, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $92,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. T-Rex considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
