  • Core Knowledge & Skills: Applies basics of one or more languages (e.g., C#/Java/Python), data structures and algorithms, source control, design patterns, and the software development lifecycle. Troubleshoots own code and participates in daily scrum activities.

  • Work & Complexity: Tackles well-scoped tasks, follows established practices, and analyzes routine situations to deliver basic functional solutions.

  • Quality & Independence: Works under close supervision, follows detailed instructions, documents work, manages time, and seeks guidance to meet deadlines.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Participates in team discussions, responds to coaching, builds internal relationships, and explains ideas to gather feedback.

  • Consulting & Engagement: Learns when to apply engineering versus consulting skills; may share basic technical content (blogs/talks) to support team visibility.

As your initial project assignment, you will support the unique needs of our client as a Junior AWS Software Engineer. Project Summary

AIS is supporting federal customer with a program focused on architecture and infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Drives the stability and sustainability of the cloud-based networks, software systems for scaling and reliable operations.

  • Performs system integration, verification and validation and 
    supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • Creates proactive engineering mechanisms that will enable the team to manage the health of a number of distributed VMs. 

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies for hardware and software specifications.

  • Utilizes trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements within existing frameworks, tools and processes.

Required For This Opportunity
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience developing, testing, or maintaining software applications in AWS‑based environments.

  • Hands-on experience with core AWS services and cloud‑native development concepts, including compute, storage, networking, and basic security controls.

  • Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages commonly used in cloud environments (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar).

  • Familiarity with secure coding practices, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and supporting software delivery in regulated or mission environments.

  • Active Secret clearance or higher, with ability to support federal and mission‑critical programs.

  • IAT Level II certification (DoD 8570/8140 compliant) and one or more cloud certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience supporting DoD/IC programs and mission systems.

At AIS, we are committed to offering competitive and fair compensation that reflects the skills, experience, and contributions of each team member. The targeted base salary range for this role is $65,000-$99,000 per year. Please note that this range is provided as a guideline and the final offer will be based on several factors, including but not limited to, skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location. We value transparency in our hiring process and are happy to discuss how your unique qualifications align with our compensation structure during the interview process.
