IT Operations Manager (Player-Coach Role)
We’re looking for a highly technical and proactive IT Operations Manager who thrives in the trenches, yet is driven to lead others. You’ll not only lead but also directly contribute to our Systems, Network, Application Support, and Helpdesk teams. This role is critical in our lean environment — you will actively fill engineering gaps, tackle complex technical challenges, and help shape the future of our IT operations.
This is not a hands-off management role. You will be deeply embedded in day-to-day operations, working side-by-side with the team to troubleshoot issues, lead projects, and implement solutions that keep our environment running smoothly and securely.
We’re seeking a natural leader who’s passionate about technology and eager to grow into a broader management role over time — someone who leads by example, earns trust through action, and balances both operational excellence and technical depth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a hands-on technical leader, actively contributing to troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of solutions.
- Own the reliability, performance, and scalability of our core IT infrastructure, including systems, networks, applications, and end-user support.
- Lead by doing: be the first to jump in on incidents, escalations, and high-impact projects.
- Mentor and guide team members, helping them grow while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Proactively identify gaps in our systems and processes, and drive initiatives to improve uptime, security, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to align IT operations with organizational goals.
- Prepare to scale into a broader management role as the team grows, eventually owning people leadership and team development responsibilities.
What You Bring:
- Deep, hands-on experience in IT operations, systems engineering, networking, or similar technical disciplines.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across various technologies.
- Experience in environments with limited resources, where you’ve had to wear multiple hats and deliver high impact.
- Strong instincts for leadership and the desire to grow into a formal management role over time.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills — you build trust and lead by example.
- Proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Bonus Points:
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, or DevOps practices.
- Exposure to cybersecurity best practices and incident response.
