Internal Audit Manager
The Internal Audit Manager job is responsible for providing management and expertise for the organization's internal audit services department. This job plans and conducts complex internal audits under the general direction of the Audit Executive/Director and in compliance with audit standards, schedules and regulatory expectations. This job also works on problems of diverse scope involving assessment of risk, interpreting audit results and developing recommendations for remediation. The individual manages projects and serves as a subject matter expert regarding the evaluation of the adequacy of the company's risk management framework and internal control structure and effectiveness. The manager effectively communicates complicated risk and control considerations to management, peers, external auditors, subordinates and others. Additionally, the manager makes decisions on complex technical issues dealing with risk assessment, regulatory compliance and controls issues having moderate to high impact to the organization.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Establishes the audit team and then provides guidance to subordinates and/or peers in the conduct of an audit and monitors progress and quality against stated audit objectives and department requirements.
  • Finalizes development of detailed audit plans, including objectives, scope and testing approach for assigned audits. Reviews audit results which include comments on the adequacy and effectiveness of the risk management framework, processes and internal controls being audited.
  • Delivers audit results within the agreed upon annual audit plan and provides less experienced team members on the job training on audit fundamentals and internal auditing methodology.
  • Conducts reviews of audit workpapers and reports completed by less experienced team members and approves or makes adjustments for final reporting.
  • Establishes or recommends standards and long-term goals for the area managed, as well as methods to improve the operational efficiency of existing business processes.
  • Develops and presents remediation solutions for identified control weaknesses, providing recommendations on risk and control strategies and works with business management to track and monitor resolution of audit issues.
  • Serves as project manager on engagements throughout the full audit lifecycle.
  • Works on projects (e.g., risk assessments, audits, advisories) of diverse scope using the organization's risk-based internal auditing methodology.
  • Collaborates with and leverages data analytics and information technology specialists, as appropriate, to identify and implement advanced testing methods.

Educational Requirements

  • University (Degree) Preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, leading or managing complex audit engagements.
  • Strong knowledge of internal auditing standards, risk assessment methodologies, and internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), with demonstrated experience evaluating control design and effectiveness.
  • Professional certification such as CIA, CPA, CISA, or CAMS.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with experience reviewing audit work, coaching junior staff, and clearly presenting audit findings and remediation recommendations to management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of internal audit or related experience, including project or people management responsibilities within Banking or the Financial Services Industry.
  • Experience with data analytics, automated audit tools, and collaboration with Risk and Compliance business units including use of advanced testing techniques.
  • Audit experience in BSA/AML and Sanctions and/or Banking Operations
