Davidson College Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Wellness is seeking a motivated individual interested in collegiate recreation, intramural sports, and student engagement to join our team as an Interim Intramural Sports Coordinator. This position also serves as the Aquatics Director, responsible for the oversight of aquatics facilities, including Cannon Pool and the Lake Campus, ensuring safe operations and regulatory compliance.
Davidson College Intramural Sports engages more than 1,000 unique participants annually through approximately leagues, tournaments, and special events each semester while employing nearly 30 student staff members. This position provides hands-on experience in league operations, student staff leadership, event management, marketing, and participant engagement within a fast-paced collegiate recreation environment.
This is a 30-hour per week, 6-month position running August through January, with negotiable start and end dates. Normal working hours will be 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday-Friday; however, there will occasionally be night and weekend responsibilities. Reporting directly to the Director of Physical Education, Recreation, and Wellness, this position will play a key leadership role in the administration and daily operations of assigned intramural sports, leagues, tournaments, and special events.
Job Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership & Operations: Provide operational oversight and leadership for intramural sport leagues, tournaments, and special events, including facility setup, equipment management, and game-day readiness.
- Student Staff Management: Recruit, train, mentor, schedule, and supervise approximately 30 student employees, including officials and supervisors.
- Administration & Compliance: Support departmental planning, scheduling, program assessment, and the enforcement of risk management, policies, and procedures.
- Promotion & Engagement: Coordinate marketing initiatives and create promotional materials (print, digital, social media, and video) to drive participant engagement.
- Communication & Development: Lead officials' training, facilitate sport education, and manage clear communication with league participants and staff.
- Customer Service Excellence: Provide exceptional customer service to foster a positive, inclusive recreational environment and perform additional duties as assigned.
- Aquatics Facility Management: Provide oversight for aquatics facilities, including Cannon Pool and the Lake Campus, ensuring operational safety, equipment maintenance, and adherence to health and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Education, Business, or a related field
- Candidates seeking a graduate level internship will be considered.
- Knowledge of intramural sports rules, policies, and trends
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Awareness of safety and risk management concerns
- Experience with officiating, intramural sports, event management, or campus recreation preferred
- Familiarity with IMLeagues or other recreation management software preferred
- Current Lifeguarding and CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification, or the ability to obtain these certifications within a specified timeframe preferred, but not required
- Current state issued Driver’s License
