The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality training programs that support employee learning, performance, and professional growth. This role partners with subject matter experts and leadership to create engaging learning materials, including instructor-led training, e-learning modules, job aids, and other performance support tools.

In addition to designing training programs, the Instructional Designer will occasionally facilitate training sessions and provide coverage for trainers when needed. This role requires strong facilitation skills, the ability to engage learners in a classroom or virtual setting, and a solid understanding of adult learning principles.

The ideal candidate is both creative and analytical, able to translate complex information into clear, engaging learning experiences that improve employee performance and knowledge retention.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Content Development

  • Design, develop, and update training programs that align with organizational goals and operational needs.
  • Create engaging learning materials including instructor-led training (ILT), virtual training, e-learning modules, job aids, guides, and assessments.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to develop effective learning experiences.
  • Work with subject matter experts to gather information and translate technical or operational content into clear and practical training materials.
  • Maintain and update training documentation, learning resources, and curriculum as processes and systems evolve.
  • Ensure training materials are accurate, organized, and aligned with company standards.

Training Facilitation & Delivery

  • Facilitate training sessions as needed, including new hire training, refresher training, and specialized workshops.
  • Provide coverage for trainers when necessary to ensure training schedules and operational needs are met.
  • Deliver engaging and effective classroom and virtual training sessions.
  • Adapt facilitation style to different audiences and learning needs.

Program Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics.
  • Recommend improvements to training programs based on data, learner feedback, and operational changes.
  • Support the implementation of new training initiatives, systems, or processes.
  • Assist with onboarding programs and ongoing employee development initiatives.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with leadership, trainers, and subject matter experts to identify training needs.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders regarding project timelines, training materials, and program updates.
  • Support a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the organization.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Experience designing and developing training programs or learning materials.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills with experience delivering training to groups.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize complex information into clear and engaging learning materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools or learning management systems.
  • Experience designing both instructor-led and self-paced learning programs.
  • Experience facilitating both in-person and virtual training sessions.
  • Background in corporate training, learning and development, or education.

Work Environment
This role may involve a combination of independent content development and interactive training delivery. The Instructional Designer must be comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting to groups of employees in both classroom and virtual environments.
