What you’ll do:
The Hydro General Counsel will have the following responsibilities:
- Provide business focused legal advice and contract management guidance to leadership on a wide variety of legal issues related to the Hydro & Steam Projects business operations and commercial transactions; provide contract review, negotiation and assistance on international and domestic sales and service agreements
- Lead a team of contract managers
- Maintain contract management policies and tool while identifying and driving continuous improvement efforts
- Collaborate with commercial teams and assist in both market and product development to support business objectives
- Participate in business/deal reviews and deal approval meetings in support of the commercial team in meeting their business objectives
- Develop and maintain commercial policies and procedures and monitor to ensure compliance
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant industries to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business from a legal standpoint and help unite to differentiate itself from the competition
- Provide legal support and advice on dispute management and resolution across a range of jurisdictions and dispute resolution mechanisms
- Manage legal budget to minimize use of outside counsel
- Partner with compliance leadership to support programs, trainings, and investigations at all levels of the organization
- Advise business on related regulatory issues and compliance matters that are specific to the Hydro business including Steam Projects.
- Prepare and deliver updates on legal developments and requirements to various audiences and provide ongoing advice on applicable laws and regulations governing all business activities of the Hydro business including Steam Projects.
- Provide legal leadership or support, as the circumstances require, for claims, disputes, litigation and investigation in the business.
- As a member of the Power Segment Legal Leadership team, partner with the other members of the team and the Power General Counsel to drive initiatives, improve global talent, improve process and transform the Power Segment legal team to an elite organization and destination employer.
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications):
- Significant legal experience with law firms and/or corporate legal department
- Legal degree from an accredited law school and the capability for in-house qualification status or equivalent knowledge / experience
- Mix of commercial and corporate legal experience gained at leading law firms as well as corporate environment
- Must have demonstrable superior academic record and training
- Fluent English speaker and excellent communication / presentation skills
- Power Industry and complex projects experience

- Experience & judgment in range of commercial transactions, including but not limited to, commercial, sales, supply chain, large projects
- Experience & judgment in managing claims, disputes and investigations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple commercial matters in a global environment, set priorities and drive projects to conclusion
- Demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively at all levels of the organization and externally
- Proven team leadership experience and ability to function as a senior member of a management team
- Demonstrated ability to work horizontally to deliver outcomes
- Demonstrated executive presence, solid judgment, clear thinking and business knowledge
