Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist manages the entire staff lifecycle for all staff types (Paid, Supported, and Volunteer), from recruitment and onboarding to staff care and relations, manager support, and individual and team performance management. The HR Generalist is well versed in US labor laws, supports and enforces HR policies, and supports employees and management with HR-related issues. This position also partners with the payroll and benefits team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment and onboarding: Manage the hiring process, which includes writing job descriptions, posting openings, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and guiding new hires through onboarding, orientation, and offboarding activities.
  • Staff relations: Act as a point of contact for staff and managers, address staff concerns, conduct basic investigations, and help resolve conflicts.
  • Benefits and compensation: Maintains awareness of benefits programs, such as health insurance and retirement plans, and understands payroll and compensation practices.
  • Performance management: Supports performance evaluation processes, provides coaching to managers in regards to goal-setting, and assists with performance improvement plans.
  • Compliance: Ensures organizational compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and helps enforce HR policies.
  • HR Information Systems (HRIS): Proficiently navigates HR systems; pulls reports; analyzes HR data to help make informed decisions.

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred certification through SHRM (CP) or HRCI (aPHR, PHR)
  • Progressive HR experience
  • Experience with HR software such as Workday
  • Strong understanding of employment law.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work for international meetings
  • Occasional travel, paid for by SIL Global
  • Compensation Structure: This role is funded through a support-raising model, with training, coaching, and organizational support provided.
