The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting designated geographic regions with a primary focus in California. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, affirmative action and employment law compliance.


Responsibilities:

  • Administer various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains the employee handbook and policies and procedures manual.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Conduct new employee orientations; write and revise job descriptions as necessary.
  • Handle employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Maintain human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Support performance management processes, including disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans.
  • Conduct HR investigations as needed and provide appropriate recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist role.
  • 5+ years of HR generalist experience supporting California employees, including working knowledge of CA wage and hour rules (meal/rest periods, overtime, final pay), CFRA/PDL leave, PAGA exposure, and California-specific compliance.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with HRIS systems.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.

Compensation:


This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. Our good-faith estimate of the annual base salary we expect to offer at hire is:

  • California: $72,384
  • All other eligible states: $42,000–$73,000

Final salary depends on job-related factors such as experience, skills, depth of California employment law knowledge, and work location.

Location: Remote. Open to candidates who live in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia or Wisconsin.

Experience: Significant experience supporting California employees is required, including California wage-and-hour, leave (CFRA/PDL) and compliance.
