About OpenRouter:

OpenRouter is the world's first and largest marketplace for LLMs, rapidly evolving to meet the needs of developers, enterprises, and AI enthusiasts. Our small team is passionate about making AI more usable and practical for developers everywhere. We're looking for a Growth Engineer to join our team and own technical execution of growth initiatives across our platform.

About the Role:

As a Growth Engineer, you'll be a hybrid engineer/marketer, focusing on using code and technical expertise to drive user acquisition, activation, retention, and referral. You'll work on the engineering team, and closely with product, design, and marketing to identify high-impact growth opportunities and rapidly iterate on experiments. This role is ideal for someone who loves to solve problems with code, has a passion for understanding user behavior, and thrives in a data-driven environment. You'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our growth trajectory and help shape the future of AI infrastructure.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and Optimize Growth Loops: Identify opportunities to create and optimize self-sustaining growth loops within our product (e.g., referral programs, viral features, integrations with other platforms).

  • A/B Testing and Experimentation: Design, implement, and analyze A/B tests across our platform to improve conversion rates, activation, and retention.

  • Build Growth Tools and Infrastructure: Develop internal tools and infrastructure to support growth initiatives, such as feature flagging systems, marketing automation integrations, and data dashboards.

  • Implement Tracking and Analytics: Ensure accurate tracking of key growth metrics using tools like PostHog and our customer data platform, and develop custom analytics dashboards to monitor performance.

  • Optimize Onboarding Flows: Identify friction points in the user onboarding experience and implement solutions to improve activation rates.

  • Automate Marketing Processes: Integrate our product with marketing automation tools to personalize user experiences and drive engagement.

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering: Work closely with product managers and engineers to prioritize growth initiatives and ensure seamless execution.

  • Dive into the API: Use your deep understanding of OpenRouter's API and underlying technology to build growth features that are deeply integrated into our core product.

You Should Have:

  • 3+ years of experience as a software engineer, preferably with experience in a growth-focused role.

  • Strong coding skills. We use TypeScript, React, and Next.js throughout OpenRouter.ai.

  • Experience with A/B testing frameworks and data analysis tools.

  • A solid understanding of growth marketing principles and user acquisition strategies.

  • Experience with product analytics platforms (e.g., PostHog, Amplitude, Mixpanel).

  • Familiarity with SEO and content marketing best practices. You’ll be able to work with external partners as needed – so no need to have expertise in absolutely everything.

  • Ability to work independently and drive projects from conception to completion.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • A passion for AI and a desire to learn about the latest advancements in the field.

Bonus Points:

  • Passionate about AI and LLMs

  • Worked on technical/API-first products

What We Offer:

  • Impactful Work: Play a key role in shaping the growth strategy of a leading AI infrastructure company.

  • Innovative Environment: Collaborate with a talented team passionate about technology and AI.

  • Professional Growth: Opportunities to expand your skill set and grow within the company.

  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary, equity, and benefits reflecting the impact you’ll have on our success.
