Company Overview

Plus Power is an energy storage market leader, with a market-leading 10+ GW portfolio across more than 25 states that will transform North American electric grids into cleaner and more versatile critical infrastructure.

Standalone energy storage is rapidly transforming the North American energy markets, because it is cheaper than new natural gas plants, faster to build than fossil peakers or transmission, and able to perform diverse energy services. Plus Power partners with electricity system operators, utilities, and investors to originate, develop, finance, own and operate standalone energy storage projects that provide critical services to the wholesale electric market. Plus Power’s team applies an intentional mindset to energy storage development by using a data-driven approach to development and operations.

At Plus Power, we are focused on solving hard climate problems, profitably.  We are growing fast, and value candidates who, like us, share a focus on setting high expectations, owning and learning from mistakes in the spirit of radical transparency, and are committed to internal partnering as a key element of our ideas meritocracy. Our team praises Plus Power’s culture and excels through our game-changing mission and supportive ecosystem.

About the Role

Plus Power is seeking a Grid Integration Engineer to join the Grid Integration team. This role is intended for an early-career engineer with two to three years of experience who is excited to work at the intersection of transmission planning, large load interconnection, data analytics, and automation.

The primary focus of this position is data center and large load interconnection studies, rather than traditional generator interconnection work. The engineer will support analysis of how large electrical loads connect to the transmission system, identify likely network upgrade risks, evaluate mitigation options, and help guide projects through market and utility processes. The role will also support technical engagement with grid operators, consultants, utilities, and internal development teams.

The ideal candidate combines strong fundamentals in power systems with a data-driven mindset, comfort working in ambiguous and fast-evolving market environments, and the ability to automate repetitive analytical workflows using Python and modern AI-enabled tools. They will bring a practical understanding of how transmission constraints, utility processes, ISO/RTO procedures, and stakeholder developments affect the viability of large load projects. They will be comfortable moving between detailed technical analysis and broader market process discussions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct steady-state transmission system analysis using TARA or related software to evaluate large load and data center interconnection opportunities, identify network upgrade risks, and assess mitigation pathways.
  • Support technical analysis associated with large load interconnection and transmission service requests across U.S. markets, with emphasis on ERCOT, MISO, SPP, and PJM.
  • Review utility, ISO, and consultant study results to determine feasibility, upgrade exposure, and schedule risk for prospective projects.
  • Develop data-driven tools, screening methods, and dashboards to improve interconnection evaluation, portfolio prioritization, and decision-making.
  • Use Python to automate data processing, study workflows, case management, and repetitive analytical tasks.
  • Leverage AI-driven tools such as Perplexity and GitHub Copilot, where appropriate, to improve workflow speed, document review, research efficiency, code development, data organization, and technical screening.
  • Participate in interconnection scoping meetings and other technical discussions with utilities, consultants, and grid authorities.
  • Monitor and assess transmission planning, queue reform, and large load integration developments that affect project strategy in key markets.
  • Support technical due diligence on transmission and interconnection constraints for prospective development opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams on transmission and interconnection considerations, including upgrade risk, study assumptions, and market-specific process requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to stakeholder meetings and calls in ERCOT, MISO, SPP, and PJM, especially those related to data centers, large load integration, interconnection policy, queue management, and transmission planning.
  • Track stakeholder initiatives, tariff changes, and policy developments related to large load interconnection and communicate key implications to internal stakeholders.

Skills & Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering required; M.S. in Electrical Engineering preferred, especially with a focus in Power Systems or Energy Systems.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in the power and energy industry with a focus on transmission, interconnection, or power systems analysis.
  • Strong background in power systems analysis, transmission fundamentals, and study interpretation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with TARA for transmission system analysis or strong adjacent experience with comparable tools.
  • Familiarity with PSS/E for load modeling or related transmission analysis work is preferred.
  • Strong Python skills for automation, data analysis, and workflow improvement.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven tools, including Perplexity and GitHub Copilot, that can improve engineering productivity, technical research, coding efficiency, data handling, and analytical workflow speed.
  • Working knowledge of stakeholder processes, planning structures, and market rules in ERCOT, MISO, SPP, and PJM.
  • Ability to represent the company professionally in stakeholder calls and technical meetings involving large load and data center integration topics.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams in a fast-moving development environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in the evolving regulatory and market environment around large load interconnection, including data center growth, queue pressures, and stakeholder reforms in organized markets, is highly desirable.

Compensation, Location, and Benefits

Highly competitive total compensation from one of North America’s leading energy storage developers, owners and operators. Flexible, work from home or hybrid work from Plus Power’s offices in San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, New York, Palm Beach and Birmingham.
