About the Role
The Athletic is looking for a journalist with a strong engineering foundation to help us manage and build out a publishing pipeline for interactive journalism. You will work as part of the newsroom's Data and Visuals team, in close collaboration with colleagues on the Engineering and Product teams, as well as with reporters and editors from around the company. In this job, you will make sure our technical foundations, publishing pipeline and integration across our apps, home screen and other platforms are seamless and performant. You will help maintain and improve our technical infrastructure, ensuring it remains flexible and performant for a wide range of products.
This is 100% remote for candidates based in the United States or Canada. Ability to work in a hybrid schedule out of the New York City office is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Help build and maintain our technical platforms and publishing pipeline for interactive and visual journalism, on projects like The Beast and our NFL forecast.
- Work with journalists and engineers to make sure our work fits into our broader products.
- Develop and improve our tooling as it relates to interactive journalism, as a resource for technical journalists around the company.
Requirements
- Experience envisioning and maintaining publishing platforms.
- A journalistic sensibility and flexibility in your approach to technology, as projects and priorities often change quickly.
- Experience working and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues.
The annual base salary range for this role is $120,000.00 - $190,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location.
For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
