The Legal Team

Our Legal team serves as a key partner to our business stakeholders in unlocking HubSpot’s growth and helping HubSpot reach its mission of helping millions of organizations grow better. We are a proactive, solutions-oriented team that enables the business to realize ambitious goals while scaling with speed and confidence. We act as strategic partners to our stakeholders, balancing smart risk with business impact, and we are deeply invested in building a world-class, customer-first legal function that reflects HubSpot’s values.

The Role

We’re hiring a Global Vice President of Commercial Legal to lead legal support for HubSpot’s go-to-market teams—including Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and our Partner Ecosystem. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you’ll work closely with GTM and executive leadership as we transform how we reach, serve, and grow with customers in an AI-first world.

AI is reshaping how businesses operate—especially across marketing, sales, and service. This is HubSpot’s moment to lead. Our vision is to become the world’s best at applying AI to help scaling companies grow. As VP of Commercial Legal, you’ll play a key role in enabling that future.

You’ll lead a global team of lawyers, legal professionals, and AI-first solutions—supporting GTM teams across all segments and regions while evolving how Legal scales. This is a high-impact role for a leader with sharp commercial judgment, customer obsession, a passion for building great teams and a drive to innovate with AI to support customer and company growth.

What You’ll Do:

Evolve our GTM Strategy

HubSpot’s GTM strategy is shifting to meet the moment—we’re expanding upmarket, scaling more efficiently in the SMB, and leaning into multi-product growth. That requires a legal partner who can evolve how we support and enable the business across segments, regions, and motions.

  • Partner with GTM and strategy leadership to deliver legal support for both an expanded upmarket motion and an efficient, high-volume downmarket motions across SMB, ensuring legal frameworks flex by customer type, deal value, and complexity.
  • Define and operationalize foundational playbooks, processes and systems around deal thresholds, lawyer-to-deal ratios, customer terms friction, and other legal touchpoints critical to efficient, sustainable top-line growth.
  • Evaluate and evolve Legal team structure, roles, and regional alignment to match the scale and sophistication of our product portfolio, customer segments, and markets—ensuring we deliver fast, consistent and customer-aligned support.

Build for Scale (with AI)

AI is not just changing what we sell—it's changing how we work. As our GTM teams evolve through AI agents, data-driven selling, and automation, Legal must lead its own transformation in parallel. That means Legal systems and processes built not just for volume—but for automation, intelligence, and long-term leverage in an increasingly AI-native world.

  • Reimagine how Legal supports a GTM organization increasingly powered by AI through an AI-forward operating model that integrates automation, agents, and self-service into GTM Legal support.
  • Deploy data and tools to measure and optimize legal efficiency, including deal cycle times, deal terms friction, SLA performance, and lawyer-to-deal ratios.
  • Build scalable workflows and legal processes that reduce friction, maintain compliance, and allow for global consistency while adapting to regional needs.
  • Anticipate legal, ethical, and regulatory implications of AI across sales, marketing, and customer interactions—and build scalable guidance.

Support the Full Customer Lifecycle

Every stage of the customer journey presents an opportunity to drive value, build trust, and accelerate growth. Legal plays a critical role across this lifecycle—from the moment a customer first engages with us to long-term retention and expansion.

  • Collaborate with Marketing to enable high-impact demand generation that supports an increasingly PLG motion, ensuring next generation strategies comply with evolving regulatory and privacy standards.
  • Partner with Sales to streamline the contracting process across segments—balancing speed and simplicity for SMBs with flexibility and sophistication for enterprise customers, resulting in a delightful experience for all customers.
  • Design scalable terms that support customer-friendly renewals and enable seamless multi-hub adoption, install base monetization, and proactive cross-sell motions.

Lead a World-Class Legal Team

To support HubSpot’s growth and transformation, we need a strong bench of legal leaders—people who are deeply invested in building a high-performing, mission-aligned team. This means attracting exceptional talent, structuring the team for scale, setting a high performance bar, and fostering a culture where people thrive by taking bold, business-minded action.

  • Set the vision for how Legal partners with GTM—ensuring the team aligns early, collaborates effectively, obsesses over customer outcomes, and delivers business impact, not just legal advice.
  • Build, coach, and grow a global team of proactive legal professionals who lean into ambiguity, demonstrate high customer empathy and bring clear and innovative solutions.
  • Help set and raise the bar on leadership across the Legal team—developing people, evolving standards, and building team culture.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and inclusion—where team members are challenged, supported, and inspired to do their best work.

What You’ll Bring

  • Over 15 years of experience, with extensive in-house experience collaborating with GTM teams selling across a wide variety of SMB customer segments and products, globally.
  • A proven track record of partnering with C-level and functional leaders to drive strategic transformation across sales, marketing, customer success, and partner motions.
  • Deep expertise in commercial law and negotiations, including SaaS agreements, privacy/data terms, channel and vendor contracts.
  • A systems thinker who can scale through people, process, and automation—with a bias for simplification and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing legal teams, with a strong focus on talent development, feedback culture, and raising the performance bar.
  • A mission-first, customer-obsessed mindset—bringing proactive legal solutions that accelerate revenue and enhance customer experience.
  • Strong independent work ethic, ability to juggle multiple priorities, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships and navigating complex, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • High comfort working in change, ambiguity, and evolution; energized by AI innovation and the future-of-work transformations.
  • A learn-it-all, growth orientation - embracing challenges and learning opportunities and committed to making Legal a strategic engine of innovation and impact.
