The Opportunity
The Global Head of Operational Risk Management is responsible for establishing and overseeing the framework, policies, and practices that identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate non-financial risks across all regions and business lines. This executive role defines and leads the global operational risk strategy, partners with senior leadership to ensure a strong risk culture and provides independent oversight of material non-financial risks including fraud, technology, data, business resiliency, third-party, and conduct risks.
The role reports directly to the EVP Chief Risk Officer, and Head of MetLife Insurance Investments with significant exposure across the enterprise and will be a member of the Global Risk Management Senior leadership team. Overall responsibilities involve business / functional engagement, governance leadership, risk reporting to management and board committees, as well as regulatory interaction.
The role will work closely with the various Line of Business Leaders and Regional Chief Risk Officers. The role has direct leadership responsibility for a team of twenty with additional functional oversight for Regional Operational Risk Management Leads across the globe. This role will be based out of the MetLife NYC office .

How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future
- Define strategic vision for Non-Financial Risk management, in collaboration with business, functional and control partner leadership. Develop and execute the global Non-Financial risk management strategy aligned with the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
- Lead enterprise-wide risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting processes for Non-Financial Risk overseeing key risk programs. Oversee key risk programs e.g. self-assessments, issue management, risk events, governance.
- Own and enhance relevant risk policies, methodologies, and standards, including risk taxonomy, risk appetite, and assessment tools.
- Provide strategic advisory and challenge the business on risk exposures and control effectiveness. Provide actionable risk insights to influence strategic decisions and improve business resilience.
- Provide governance and challenge to technology, cyber, data, and third-party risk management activities. Collaborate with IT, procurement, data and security teams to ensure appropriate controls and resilience.
Independently analyze significant risk events, ensuring effective root cause analysis and sustainable remediation. - Drive development and use of Non-Financial risk dashboards, risk indicators, and performance metrics.
- Deliver insightful, transparent risk reporting to senior leadership, regulators, and the board.
- Chair the Enterprise Non-Financial Risk Committee and represent operational risk in executive risk committees and other senior governance forums. Lead the non-financial risk input into global risk governance and board reporting processes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Executive Leadership Team (ELT), business leaders, regional management and Global Risk Management.
- Monitor external trends and regulatory developments to evolve risk capabilities and ensure compliance.
Act as a liaison with regulators, auditors, and assurance providers on key risk topics. - Lead a high-performing global risk team with strong technical and leadership capabilities. Foster a culture of accountability, risk awareness, and continuous improvement across the organization.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- 20+ years' experience in a risk/control, business, operations or technology role
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business or related field
- Practical experience with regulatory frameworks, risk and control self-assessment tools and risk technology platforms.
- Track record in designing, implementing, and enhancing operational risk frameworks, policies, and methodologies.
- Commitment to fostering a strong risk culture and continuous improvement in risk processes.
- Proven ability to engage and influence senior business and functional stakeholders
- Ability to demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a desire to innovate to solve business problems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex risk exposures and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate and influence.
- Experience leading and motivating teams and overseeing risk functions across multiple business and regions
