THE ROLE: The Global Category Product Manager will lead the strategy, innovation, operational and commercial performance of a critical global category at the heart of our Applied Water portfolio specifically for Motors, Drives and Intelligent Systems. This is a high-impact, senior individual contributor leadership role for a product professional with deep experience in electric motors, drives, and motion-control technologies. As energy efficiency standards tighten and smart systems accelerate across water and industrial applications, this role will shape the next generation of motors and drive solutions that power Xylem’s global growth and sustainability mission. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Global ownership of a strategic motors & drives portfolio used across commercial and industrial water applications
- Direct influence on technology direction in areas such as energy efficiency, VFDs, motor standards, and regulatory compliance
- Executive visibility and opportunity to contribute to portfolio investment and M&A decisions
- Define and execute the global product line strategy for motors and drives, aligned with customer needs, technology trends, and regulatory requirements
- Translate market and customer insights into a clear, prioritized product roadmap
- Monitor global market trends including efficiency regulations (e.g., IE/NEMA), electrification, digital integration, and supplier technology roadmaps
- Own revenue, margin, and profitability targets for the motors & drives category
- Develop long-range financial plans and investment strategies to deliver sustainable growth
- Lead pricing, cost, and margin improvement initiatives in collaboration with engineering, operations, and procurement
- Provide accurate forecasts and portfolio insights to support global operations and supply planning
- Partner with engineering teams to guide motor and drive technology choices, architectures, and platform strategies
- Support new product development from concept through launch, ensuring strong value propositions
- Evaluate product performance, field issues, and failure analysis to drive continuous improvement
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop compelling value propositions, launch plans, and sales enablement tools
- Deliver product training and technical presentations to internal teams, customers, and partners
- Represent Xylem at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer engagements to reinforce thought leadership
- Lead through influence in a global, matrixed organization with no direct reports
- Align stakeholders across engineering, operations, procurement, sales, and regional product teams
- Provide strategic input on partnerships, supplier strategies, and potential M&A opportunities related to motors and drives
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be required based on organization needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- 7+ years’ experience in product management, product line management, or category strategy within motors, drives, motion control, or industrial electromechanical systems
- Strong understanding of electric motors, VFDs/drives, efficiency standards, and supplier ecosystems
- Proven ownership of product portfolios with revenue, margin, and lifecycle accountability
- Experience operating in global, matrixed organizations
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear business and customer value propositions
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Experience in water, HVAC, industrial equipment, or adjacent regulated industries preferred
- Continuous improvement mindset and exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or cost-reduction methodologies
DAY IN THE LIFE:
In this role, the working environment is an office environment with frequent visits to Xylem locations where supporting products are applicable. Some facilities require the use of PPE, have extreme weather extremities, exposures to hazardous material, or loud noise, The physical demands may include but not limited to regularly sitting, standing, lifting up to 20 lbs. In addition, this role may be required to travel up to 50% (international and domestic).
The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range. At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
