Who We're Looking For
We're looking for a developer who can do both — design the conversational flow that a student experiences on WhatsApp and build the backend systems that make it work reliably at scale. You can independently trace a user interaction from a Glific flow through webhooks and APIs all the way to the database, identify where something is breaking, and implement a fix that holds. You write clean, maintainable code, document what you build, and take ownership of the systems you ship — including after they go live. What You'll Do
Conversational Flow Design & Maintenance
- Design, implement, test, and maintain Glific flows for student and teacher-facing experiences.
- Integrate Glific with internal and third-party systems.
- Translate business and program requirements into clear, reliable conversational flows.
- Implement multilingual flows where required.
Backend Development & API Engineering
- Develop REST APIs using FastAPI, Frappe, Django, Flask, or similar Python frameworks.
- Implement webhooks, authentication, validation, error handling, and logging.
- Write maintainable code, technical documentation, and automated tests.
Data & Integrations
- Work with SQL databases — PostgreSQL, MariaDB — and manage data exchange between systems.
- Ensure reliable data flow across Glific, backend APIs, and integrated platforms.
Reliability & Operations
- Diagnose issues across flows, APIs, background jobs, and integrations.
- Monitor production systems and resolve performance or reliability problems.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and program teams to convert requirements into working solutions.
Who You Are
- 1+ year of practical experience creating and managing Glific flows.
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
- Experience with FastAPI, Frappe, or another Python web framework.
- Understanding of webhooks, JSON, HTTP, OAuth, API tokens, and authentication.
- Working knowledge of SQL databases — PostgreSQL or MariaDB.
- Experience with Git and structured debugging.
- Ability to translate business processes into clear conversational flows and backend logic.
Skills You Bring
- Glific & Conversational Design: Practical ability to design, build, and maintain Glific flows — translating program needs into reliable user-facing experiences.
- Python & API Development: Strong backend engineering skills across Python frameworks — FastAPI, Frappe, Django, or Flask — with solid REST API experience.
- Systems Thinking: Ability to trace a user interaction end-to-end across flows, webhooks, APIs, and databases — and identify where things break.
- Reliability & Ownership: Comfortable owning production systems — monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving issues without being told twice.
Good to Have
- Experience with WhatsApp-based applications or chatbot platforms.
- Familiarity with Frappe Framework, ERPNext, or Glific APIs.
- Experience with Docker, Redis, background workers, and cloud deployment.
- Experience implementing multilingual conversational flows.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and data privacy practices.
