Position Summary
The GIS Analyst will be a critical member of our Development Team, supporting the origination and advancement of renewable energy projects. This role will work closely with the Land Acquisition/Real Estate Team to provide spatial analysis, mapping, and data management that informs site selection, due diligence, permitting, and ongoing project development activities.
Key Responsibilities
Spatial Analysis & Mapping
Create, update, and maintain high-quality GIS maps and data layers for wind, solar, and BESS projects
Perform spatial analysis to support site screening, feasibility studies, and land acquisition decisions
Integrate environmental, topographic, transmission, zoning, engineering, commercial and land use data into project assessments
Data Management
Maintain organized GIS datasets, ensuring accuracy, version control, and alignment with company standards
Acquire, process, and analyze publicly available and proprietary geospatial datasets
Ensure GIS outputs meet project requirements for presentations, regulatory filings, and stakeholder communications
Collaboration & Support
Partner closely with Land Acquisition/Real Estate to evaluate parcels, assess constraints, and optimize project boundaries
Support Development Managers with maps, exhibits, and analysis for permitting, interconnection, and community engagement
Provide GIS deliverables for cross-functional teams, including engineering, environmental, and finance
Technology & Innovation
Leverage GIS software and tools (ArcGIS, Google Earth, etc.) for advanced geospatial analysis
Recommend process improvements and new data sources to enhance project evaluation
Stay current with GIS trends, renewable energy siting tools, and relevant regulations
Working Conditions
This position is located in Charlotte, NC
This is a hybrid position; employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the designated office location
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, or related field
One (1) or more years of professional GIS experience, preferably in renewable energy, utilities, or related industries.
Desired Qualifications
Two (2) or more years of professional GIS experience, preferably in renewable energy, utilities, or related industries.
Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro/Online, QGIS, or related leading-market platform or software.
Experience with spatial analysis, geoprocessing tools, and map production.
Familiarity with geospatial data formats (shapefiles, geodatabases, KML/KMZ, raster data).
Understanding of land use planning, environmental constraints, and transmission/interconnection mapping in the U.S.
Basic scripting skills (Python, ModelBuilder).
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills.
