AMP is hiring a General Manager, Facility Operations to report to the Chief Operating Officer in Portsmouth, VA. 

This leader will own the P&L and operational performance of multiple Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) across assigned regions, overseeing 24/7 operations and driving safety, efficiency, scalability, and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a hands-on operator who thrives in complex, high-throughput industrial environments and enjoys building strong teams while scaling operations.

As our General Manager, Facility Operations, you will:

  • Own full P&L responsibility (revenue and expense) for multiple AMP recycling facilities, driving operational and financial performance
  • Lead and develop a team of Plant Managers and hourly labor, fostering accountability, safety, and high performance
  • Oversee 24/7 facility operations, ensuring reliability, uptime, and compliance with safety standards
  • Design and implement best-practice operating systems, processes, and metrics to improve scalability and consistency
  • Partner with Engineering and cross-functional teams to pilot and deploy new technologies, improving equipment, layouts, and throughput
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new facility launches, assuming operational ownership post-startup
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, staffing plans, and productivity targets aligned to regional goals
  • Identify and standardize best practices across facilities, driving excellence across regions
  • Act as a mentor and coach, supporting the growth and development of leaders across the organization
  • Partner with People and Safety teams to maintain a strong culture of safety, engagement, and operational discipline

Requirements:

Leadership & Mindset

  • Proven change agent who can clearly communicate the “why,” build alignment, and lead teams through transformation
  • Strong operator mindset with a bias for action, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Confident, direct communicator who advocates for what’s needed to get results

Operational Excellence

  • Deep experience leading industrial, manufacturing, logistics, or processing facilities, ideally multi-site
  • Strong grasp of P&L management, budgeting, staffing, and productivity optimization
  • Ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives while maintaining operational focus

Execution & Communication

  • Highly organized, able to juggle multiple priorities across regions
  • Excellent planning and project execution skills
  • Comfortable communicating with frontline teams through executive leadership

Travel Requirements: 

  • Up to 40%.

Equity Grant:  The candidate selected for this role will be recommended for a stock option grant commensurate with the position and the candidate’s qualifications.
