📍Location: Remote or Hybrid (SF or NYC)

ReadMe is looking for a full stack engineer who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment. Our teams are full of curious, creative, and committed people who love what they’re building. If that sounds like you, you’ll be right at home at ReadMe!

🦉 Who we are

We're a small team of humans (and one owl) working together to do big things, and we’re growing fast! That’s where you come in. Since we’re a startup, you’ll make a big impact on ReadMe - both in the daily responsibilities of your role and beyond.

ReadMe helps more than 5,000 leading startups and tech companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Apple, Notion, or Nvidia, you’ve used ReadMe! We love what we do because it’s so much more than just documentation. We’re providing tools for teams to build a better developer experience and make their products and APIs easier to use.

✅ You’ll thrive in this role at ReadMe if…
  • You have strong expertise in modern web technologies, particularly TypeScript, front end and back end frameworks, and cloud-based architectures - making you the go-to engineer for defining scalable and maintainable systems.

  • You can adapt and thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, balancing the need for quick execution with performance, long-term code quality and maintainability.

  • You enjoy mentoring and fostering growth in your teammates, with an understand that great engineering work is just as much about supporting people as it is about writing code.

  • You are able to work cross-functionally with designers and product folks at the right level for them and the circumstance —whether it’s big-picture brainstorming or in nitty-gritty details.

  • You take ownership of projects from their inception to their deployment, whether it’s defining architecture and making decisions around technology, estimating work, or ensuring a smooth release to our customer base.

  • You have cultivated strong opinions around product through your experiences. You care deeply about the user - balancing their needs with technical decisions you make, ensuring a seamless and delightful user experience.

💻 Types of projects you’ll work on

We’re all about making life easier for our customers—whether it’s simplifying how they create and maintain their docs or giving them better ways to track API metrics. Solving real problems for our users means we get to tackle some seriously interesting technical challenges. Some examples of projects Full Stack Engineers have worked on recently include:

  • Designing and building a real-time notification system to support our customers’ understanding of their API and its users.

  • Building support for branching and a peer-review process in git-backed documentation.

  • Building interactive code tutorials backed by codegen and customer-defined SDKs.

💙 You'll love working at ReadMe because…

ReadMe is a company that prides itself on caring about it’s people; customers and employees. We don’t just care about the work we do, but the people who make ReadMe what it is. Take a glance at our benefits and you’ll see that our culture of care is intentionally built into how we operate as a company.

What’s the hiring process like?

At ReadMe, we want the interview process to reflect who we are: open, caring, with just a touch of whimsy. We’ve designed the process not only to embody the values that have helped us build an amazing team but also to give candidates the best opportunity to showcase their skills and let their true selves shine. After all, it’s about finding the right people to help take ReadMe even further! If you want a deeper dive into our hiring philosophy check out this blog post about our interview process.

  1. If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with one of our Engineering Managers. They'll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to learn more about your personal experience.

  2. We’ll then do a technical assessment with a couple of ReadMe’s engineers.

  3. Finally, we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These take an average of 4.5 hours including an hour break. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the people you’ll be interviewing with, and then have you talk with each person one-on-one later on.

  4. We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…
  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. 🏝

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and your dependents. 🩺

  • A One Medical membership. 🧑‍⚕️

  • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month for up to 6 months. 😌

  • A wellness stipend of up to $150 per month. 🏋️

  • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year. 💸

  • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. 🐣

  • Work from home office stipend of $500. 🖥️

  • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead. ✈️
