This freelance role focuses on resizing and adapting creative assets, managing multiple production requests, and ensuring quality across digital platforms for high-impact projects.
We’re looking for experienced production/graphic designers to join our freelance talent pool!
We are building out a roster of detail-oriented production designers to support one of the best firms in the do-gooder business. The right person for this freelance role is highly organized, fast, and precise — someone who excels at executing within established design systems, resizing assets, making edits, and preparing files for launch across digital channels. This role is less focused on developing original concepts and more focused on high-quality production, iteration, and scale.
This freelance role is approximately 10 hours a week (some months could be zero, other months could be much higher), and requires availability for last-minute projects and edits with tight turnarounds. The production/graphic designer would need to respond to inquiries within 24 hours and work in a timezone that overlaps with a timezone in the continental United States (PT, MT, CT, ET).
About M+R’s work:
- We run advertising campaigns that raise money and create change for our clients. Great big ones you read about in the news and tiny ones you’ve never heard of that are saving lives. Lots of politically progressive groups -- Planned Parenthood, League of Conservation Voters, PETA. Environmental groups such as NRDC and Oceana, and our clients also include organizations that are working in the most dire situations in the world such as the International Rescue Committee.
- Day-to-day, we’re raising revenue, acquiring new donors and supporters, winning campaigns and elections, and improving brand and issue recognition.
- Critical to our success is clean, compelling, cutting-edge, user-centered design. That’s where you come in.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Resizing and adapting existing creative across formats and platforms (display, social, email, landing pages, etc.)
- Making edits and updates to existing creative based on feedback or performance learnings.
- Exporting and packaging final assets in correct file formats and sizes for delivery.
- Producing multiple variations of ads for testing and optimization.
- Applying established brand systems across campaigns and deliverables.
- Preparing production-ready files for digital advertising platforms.
- Maintaining consistency and quality across high volumes of asset variants.
- Organizing and managing layered files so they're clean, labeled, and hand-off ready.
- Collaborating with designers, strategists, and account teams to implement updates quickly and accurately.
- Managing multiple production requests with tight deadlines.
- Ensuring final files meet technical specifications and platform requirements.
- Supporting campaign launches with quick-turn production needs.
- Supporting the design team with production tasks, freeing senior designers up for higher-level creative work.
- Own communication with internal M+R staff through accurate project and time tracking.
- Complete work within budgeted hours, provide accurate time estimates, and deliver on agreed-upon deadlines.
Skills and experiences required for this role:
- 2-4 years of production/graphic design experience in an agency.
- Mastery of Photoshop and Illustrator. You can work quickly in layered files without breaking things.
- Pixel-perfect attention to detail; you notice when something is 2px off.
- Experience resizing and adapting creative across formats and platforms.
- Strong understanding of digital ad specs across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, display, email).
- Ability to manage and execute a high volume of assets accurately and efficiently.
- Comfortable working within existing brand systems.
- Proven ability to work fast under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- Clear communicator — you ask the right questions upfront so revisions are minimal.
- Strong organizational and file management skills.
Skills and experiences that are preferred, but not required:
- Experience working with nonprofits, advocacy, or issue-based organizations.
- Experience with HTML5 ads.
- Experience working in Figma.
- Experience with Creatopy or other ad production tools.
- Light motion or animation experience.
Compensation:
$50 - $75 an hour
The fine print:
You must be working within the continental US and available in a timezone that overlaps with a timezone in the continental United States (PT, MT, CT, ET).
