About the Role
As we grow, we’re seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fractional Controller to support our finance operations, including commission processing, employee payroll, and company audit preparation. This role requires a high level of accuracy, discretion, and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners. Experience in commission reporting and/or working with technology-focused sales teams is highly preferred, as it provides valuable context for understanding our compensation structures and customer base.
What You’ll Do
- Manage day-to-day accounting tasks, including reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and journal entries
- Accurately process and track commission payments, particularly for Medicare insurance agents or related sales roles
- Administer employee payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws
- Maintain payroll and commission records; collaborate with HR and sales departments for compensation reporting
- Prepare and review financial reports and ensure records are audit-ready
- Support the company audit process, including preparing documentation and working with external auditors
- Ensure financial practices align with GAAP and internal policies
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Prepare financial accounting for commercial partners
- Build financial accounting framework for holding company subsidiary
- Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes and reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an accountant
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll compliance
- Experience processing commission payments, especially in Medicare insurance sales or related verticals
- Direct experience administering employee payroll through platforms like Gusto or similar
- Familiarity with compensation structures common in insurance or financial services sales
- Experience supporting company audits and liaising with external accountants
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online or similar) and Google Sheets/Excel.
- Ability to improve the automation of data with new software tools
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Experience in startup or high-growth environments is a plus
Nice to Have:
- Previous work experience at a technology-enabled company, or fintech company serving financial institutions
- Familiarity with expense management tools (e.g., Ramp, Expensify, Gusto)
- Understanding of sales team operations, lead flows, and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot)
