Ford Racing is searching for a highly motivated and experienced Performance Engineer to drive total vehicle optimization for our LMDh entry and contribute across all Ford Racing platforms within the Performance Engineering Group.

In this position...

You will collaborate with engineers in vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain, and chassis design, focusing on optimizing vehicle performance for the Ford LMDh program.  You will be responsible for applying technical solutions to total vehicle performance through car build, integration, setup, simulation and race strategy.  The successful candidate will focus on driving continuous improvement of performance specifically for the Ford Racing LMDh program and contribute to building a team to achieve industry leading performance across all Ford Racing disciplines.

This role is hybrid and requires at least 4 days per week onsite in Allen Park, MI or Concord, NC.    

Responsibilities

What you’ll do...

Process & Integration

  • Lead development and implementation of methodologies, and processes to enhance performance for LMDh.
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines to align technical goals with the overall vision of the Performance Engineering Group.
  • Take primary responsibility for the testing and optimization of the LMDh vehicle, while supporting similar efforts for other concurrent programs, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and exceed performance expectations.

Innovation & Technical Expertise

  • Lead planning and execution of track, lab and simulator testing.
  • Support race performance optimization through setup changes and race strategy.
  • Analyze test and race data from all technical disciplines, (aero, vehdyn, powertrain), and provide recommendations to optimize performance.
  • Drive innovation and inspire team to solve problems with realistic, logical and implementable solutions.
  • Leverage expertise with data analysis to refine processes for maximum efficiency and performance.
  • Leverage new and emerging technologies to identify areas of focus for performance optimization.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Provide data backed recommendations using knowledge of racing performance to optimize systems and resolve issues.
  • Integrate with Aero, VehDyn and Powertrain groups to ensure concepts are integrated optimally to improve overall vehicle performance.
  • Foster strong relationships with the design studio, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain and program teams to ensure seamless integration and total vehicle performance.
  • Collaborate with internal Ford technical teams to improve methodologies, processes and results across all tools. 
Qualifications

You’ll have...

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related subject.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in the Race Engineering, Motorsports Performance or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years mentoring or leading a team through complex problems.
  • International and Domestic travel to race and test events is required, which includes weekend travel.

Even better, you may have...

  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and associated testing methods.
  • Extensive experience using data acquisition tools such as Bosch WinDarab, Motec i2, Atlas, Pi Cosworth, etc.
  • Significant experience using simulation software such as Dymola, VI Grade, CarSim, Canopy, etc.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills with ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong ability and desire to work collaboratively with multiple groups and personnel across numerous disciplines. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Passion for motorsports and a commitment to excellence.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically, including weekends.
  • Race engineering experience in WEC, F1, NASCAR, Indy Car, IMSA. 
  • Proven track record of successful project management, including experience managing complex projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Prior experience leading and working within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $112,680 - $212,760.      
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
