Roles and Responsibilities

As a FOQA Engineer, you will be part of a data science or cross-disciplinary team on commercially-facing development projects, typically involving large, complex data sets. These teams typically include statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, engineers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units. Potential application areas include remote monitoring and diagnostics across infrastructure and industrial sectors, financial portfolio risk assessment, and operations optimization.
In this role, you will:

  • Assist and advise customers in the process of downloading of data from the aircraft’s digital flight data, quick access recorder, or similar to obtain data needed for the Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA)/Flight Data Management(FDM) program
  • Be able to read and interpret technical publications related to the recorder’s logical frame layout
  • Be able to interpret and assess flight and aircraft system parameters to determine acceptable levels of performance and quality
  • Develop and maintain automated tools and dashboards for the real-time assessment of flight data
  • Work with pilots, mechanics, and safety departments to ensure accurate recording, storage, and management of flight data in compliance with industry regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA, ICAO) and best practices
  • Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate your work and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of data processing techniques and tools used to collect data from the aircraft’s flight data recorder, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in supporting safety initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Aviation, Aerospace Engineering, or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill at data cleansing, data quality assessment, and using analytics for data assessment
  • Proficient in data processing and analysis
  • Demonstrated awareness of real-time analytics development and deployment
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of applied analytics, descriptive statistics, feature extraction and predictive analytics on industrial datasets
  • Demonstrated skill at data visualization and storytelling for an audience of stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of flight data parameters and the ability to interpret data from FDRs accurately
  • Knowledge of relevant aviation safety standards and regulations
  • Demonstrated skill at function in a team setting
  • Demonstrated awareness of critical thinking and problem-solving methods
  • Demonstrated awareness of presentation and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of how to succeed in ambiguous circumstances
