The Boeing Company is currently seeking Flight Software Test Engineers (Associate/Experienced/ Senior) to support our Flight Software Team located in El Segundo, CA. In this role, the individual will lead a team with test and verification of flight software with a focus on leadership, quality, and development of new test capabilities for current and future satellite programs. This position will support the Boeing Defense Services (BDS) business organization.
We are seeking Software Engineers that are passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, implementation, and test of software for existing and emerging Boeing commercial and government space programs.
This exciting software engineer position requires demonstrated experience within the software ecosystem, a diverse background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and support existing capabilities of multiple software programming projects. Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required.
Position Responsibilities (P2):

• Supports design, development, and completion of software test and verification activities to ensure product quality, reliability, and functionality.
• Partners with stakeholders to review and identify software requirements, test objectives, test strategies, and testability considerations.
• Assists in designing test plans, test cases, and test scenarios that align to software requirements and specifications.
• Contributes to setup and configuration of test environments (hardware, software, and network) to replicate production conditions.
• Supports execution of manual and automated test cases to verify functionality, performance, safety, and compliance.
• Identifies, documents, and reports defects, issues, and potential vulnerabilities found during testing, and tracks resolution status.
• Provides test results, observations, and actionable feedback to developers and system engineers to facilitate defect resolution and design improvements.
• Creates, documents, and maintains test artifacts (plans, procedures, cases, metrics, and test data) in accordance with data privacy and security protocols and standards.
• Supports development and maintenance of automated test scripts and frameworks to improve test efficiency, repeatability, and coverage.
• Participates in software project management activities related to test and verification, coordinating with multifunctional teams to meet schedule and quality objectives.
• Contributes to continuous improvement of test processes, tools, and best practices; recommends enhancements to increase test effectiveness.
• Maintains awareness of applicable regulatory, safety, and cybersecurity requirements affecting test and verification activities.

Position Responsibilities (P3):

• Designs, develops, and completes end-to-end test and verification activities for software products to ensure quality, reliability, and full functional compliance.
• Partners with stakeholders to analyze and validate software requirements, define test objectives, establish test strategies, and assess testability.
• Designs comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scenarios that map directly to software requirements, system architectures, and acceptance criteria.
• Leads setup and configuration of test environments (hardware, software, and network) to accurately replicate production conditions and support repeatable testing.
• Executes and oversees execution of manual and automated test cases and scenarios to verify functionality, performance, safety, and scalability of software systems.
• Identifies, documents, prioritizes, and tracks defects, issues, and potential vulnerabilities; collaborates with engineering to validate fixes and closure.
• Provides clear, actionable test results, risk assessments, and design feedback to product and development teams to drive timely resolution of defects and design improvements.
• Creates, documents, and maintains test artifacts - including plans, procedures, cases, metrics, and test data - ensuring adherence to data privacy, security protocols, and applicable standards.
• Develops, extends, and maintains automated test frameworks and scripts to increase test coverage, repeatability, and execution efficiency across CI/CD pipelines.
• Performs and coordinates software project management activities related to test and verification, including scheduling, resource planning, and cross-functional coordination to meet milestones.
• Defines and monitors test metrics and KPIs, uses results to inform decision making, and drives continuous improvement initiatives for test processes and tooling.
• Conducts risk-based testing and contributes to hazard, safety, and cybersecurity analysis as it relates to verification activities.
• Mentors and guides junior test engineers, promoting best practices in test design, automation, and reporting.
• Stays current with regulatory, safety, and cybersecurity requirements impacting software verification and incorporates compliance into test strategies.

Position Responsibilities (P4):

• Leads the design, development, and execution of end-to-end test and verification activities for software products to ensure quality, reliability, and functional compliance.
• Engages and leads stakeholders in reviewing and defining software requirements, test objectives, test strategies, and testability constraints; aligns verification approach with program goals.
• Leads the design of comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scenarios that map to requirements, system architecture, safety objectives, and acceptance criteria.
• Advises and directs the setup and configuration of test environments (hardware, software, and network) to accurately replicate production conditions and support scalable, repeatable testing.
• Leads and oversees execution of manual and automated test cases and scenario-driven verification to validate functionality, performance, safety, and resilience of software systems.
• Identifies, categorizes, and drives resolution of defects, anomalies, and potential vulnerabilities; ensures timely triage, risk assessment, and closure with engineering stakeholders.
• Advises on and interprets test results, providing executive-level feedback and recommendations to influence software design, risk mitigation, and release decisions.
• Leads creation, documentation, and maintenance of test artifacts - plans, procedures, cases, metrics, and test data - ensuring compliance with data privacy, security protocols, and applicable standards and regulations.
• Directs development and evolution of automated test frameworks and scripts to maximize test coverage, repeatability, and integration with CI/CD pipelines and toolchains.
• Leads and coordinates software project management activities for test and verification, including planning, scheduling, resourcing, cross-functional coordination, and milestone management.
• Establishes and tracks test metrics and KPIs, reports status to leadership, uses results to inform program decisions, and drives continuous process and tool improvements.
• Champions risk-based testing approaches and contributes to system-level safety, hazard, and cybersecurity analyses as they relate to verification activities.
• Mentors and develops test organization talent; defines best practices, governance, and standards for test engineering and automation.
• Represents verification activities in program-level reviews, audits, and supplier engagements; advocates for verification investments and ensures alignment with business and regulatory requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

• Bachelor's Degree
• Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance post-start for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
• 2+ years of experience performing software integration, test, validation, and verification
• 2+ years of experience with designing and developing software for a real time or non-real time system
• 2+ years of experience in software development using languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Level 3: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Level 4: 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle that includes requirements analysis through Formal Qualification
• Experience using team collaboration tools including GitLab, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence
• Experience in embedded real-time software development, test, and verification
• Experience with Wireshark or other network analysis tools and Debuggers
• Experience automating software builds, unit tests, and integration tests using a DevOps tool chain

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range / Associate: $90,950 - $123,050
Summary Pay Range / Experienced: $112,200 - $151,800
Summary Pay Range / Senior: $135,150 - $182,850
