IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE
At BECU, as a Financial Accountant I, your work goes far beyond numbers — it’s about strengthening the financial health of a cooperative that serves over a million members. In this role, you’ll dive into the details of financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency across balance sheets, revenue, and expenses. You’ll be a key partner in preparing critical financial reports and helping BECU maintain the highest standards of transparency and compliance.
From day one, you’ll contribute to the Credit Union’s broader mission by ensuring our financial records are accurate and insightful — empowering decision-makers and positively impacting the member experience. If you enjoy solving problems, collaborating with others, and bringing order to complexity, this role is your opportunity to shine.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Balance Sheet Reconciling: Monitor and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts. Dive deep into discrepancies and investigate any out-of-balance conditions with diligence and precision.
- Collaborative Problem Solving: Work closely with teams across the Credit Union to ensure transactions are recorded promptly and accurately. When things don’t align, you’ll take the lead in solving issues — asking for support when needed.
- Journal Entry Preparation: Prepare daily and month-end journal entries for a variety of activities, ensuring everything is backed by solid documentation and tied to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Close Process Participation: Play an active role in monthly and yearly close processes. Perform analytical reviews, spot trends, and offer insightful commentary that helps leaders understand the “why” behind the numbers.
- Process Understanding: Get to know the inner workings of how our systems impact accounting. You’ll learn the processes, understand the flow of data, and become a go-to resource in your area.
- Support for Audits and Reporting: Create schedules and gather documentation for year-end audits and compliance requests from federal, state, or local agencies.
- Data Tools & Systems: Use your tech skills to analyze financial data efficiently. You’ll help test and implement system upgrades and conversions that enhance our accounting capabilities.
- Process Improvement: Look for ways to make things better — from increasing efficiency to strengthening internal controls. You’ll work across teams to implement meaningful improvements.
- Procedure Documentation: Maintain clear, updated written procedures for all responsibilities in your area, ensuring operational continuity and clarity.
- Additional Contributions: Pitch in on other projects or responsibilities as assigned — your flexibility and curiosity will be valued.
