Position Title: Employee Classifier (HR Specialist – Classification)

Position Overview: We are seeking an Employee Classifier to provide expertise in position management and job classification in support of reclassification efforts across occupational series. The incumbent will evaluate position descriptions, analyze duties and responsibilities, and ensure positions are properly classified in accordance with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards and federal regulations. This role is critical to aligning workforce structures with organizational needs and ensuring consistency and compliance in classification decisions.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Experience applying OPM position classification standards and policies.
• Strong knowledge of federal HR laws, regulations, and classification principles.
• Ability to interpret and analyze complex position descriptions and organizational structures.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain classification decisions to diverse audiences.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
• Review and analyze position descriptions (PDs) to determine appropriate occupational series, title, and grade levels.
• Apply OPM classification standards, factor evaluation systems, and related guidance to ensure accurate, consistent determinations.
• Conduct desk audits and interviews with supervisors and employees to validate job duties and responsibilities.
• Collaborate with managers, HR staff, and subject matter experts to support reclassification projects and ensure workforce alignment.
• Provide technical guidance and training to HR colleagues and leadership on classification policies and practices.
• Maintain accurate records of classification decisions, rationales, and documentation to ensure defensibility.
• Research and interpret new OPM classification standards, updates, and policy changes.
• Contribute to organizational studies and workforce planning initiatives.

Desired Skills:
• Prior experience with large-scale reclassification efforts.
• Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS) and electronic position description libraries.
• Knowledge of workforce analytics, position management, and organizational design.
• Experience providing training or guidance on classification policies.
