Yahoo serves as a trusted guide for hundreds of millions of people globally, helping them achieve their goals online through our portfolio of iconic products. For advertisers, Yahoo Advertising offers omnichannel solutions and powerful data to engage with our brands and deliver results.

A little about us:

Yahoo is a global media and tech powerhouse dedicated to connecting people to their passions. With nearly 900 million users worldwide, we provide a range of services from news and finance to shopping and gaming. Our mission at Yahoo News is to be a guide through the digital wilderness and help users achieve their goals, both big and small. Right now at this important moment in Yahoo’s history, the Originals team (on which you’d sit) is making sure Yahoo News remains an indispensable part of readers’ lives while also working to connect with new audiences and position the brand for the future. Building the best guide to the Internet (and the world) requires building the best team. And so…

A lot about you:

Yahoo News is hiring a Writer to help bring cross-functional projects to life. Alongside a team of talented writers and editors, you’ll be asked to develop and experiment with new storytelling formats utilizing various types of journalism (reporting, data, visual, video, social—the sky’s the limit). This role spans Yahoo News’s editorial verticals — including entertainment, lifestyle, current events and more — so you’ll be beat agnostic. One day you may be interviewing Ben Affleck (swoon) and the next you’ll be researching unique ways to illustrate Aldi’s rising popularity in the United States amid skyrocketing grocery prices. You’ll be asked to take risks, try new things, ignore the playbook and what’s been done before to help Yahoo build IP, create memorable experiences and grow and attract new audiences.

Your day at Yahoo:

  • Ideate and pitch “big swings” that elevate the Yahoo News brand and challenge conventional storytelling

  • Report and write original, engaging stories across a wide range of topics — from pop culture and lifestyle to current events and consumer trends

  • Identify unique story angles and coverage white spaces that resonate with Yahoo’s broad and diverse audience

  • Develop repeatable, recognizable IP that can extend across platforms — including site, newsletters, social media, and video

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams — visuals, video, social, curation, and more — to bring ambitious, high-impact projects to life

  • Concept multimedia-rich experiences using compelling visuals, data, video, or experimental storytelling techniques

  • Constantly look for ways to innovate, take creative risks, and push the boundaries of what digital journalism can be

What we’re looking for:

  • A strong journalism foundation — with experience in reporting, interviewing, and editorial judgment

  • 3-6 years of professional experience in digital storytelling across formats or platforms

  • Proven ability to develop original angles and produce accurate, audience-driven content

  • Excellent writing skills — clear, accessible, and engaging

  • Experience producing cross-platform editorial work (e.g., video, social, visual, or interactive packages)

  • A collaborative spirit and comfort working with cross-functional teams

  • A point of view on how to bring multi-dimensional, innovative projects to life

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.

At Yahoo, we offer flexible hybrid work options that our employees love! While most roles don’t require regular office attendance, you may occasionally be asked to attend in-person events or team sessions. You’ll always get notice to make arrangements. Your recruiter will let you know if a specific job requires regular attendance at a Yahoo office or facility. If you have any questions about how this applies to the role, just ask the recruiter!
