Job Description

The External Communications & Media Manager is responsible for ensuring the company is represented clearly, credibly, and consistently across external channels. This role supports earned and paid media efforts, prepares subject-matter experts for external visibility, and helps manage high-impact external communications aligned to company priorities. Working in close partnership with the SVP, Corporate Brand & Communications, this role executes against the established corporate narrative, translating it into disciplined media engagement, external messaging, and public-facing content. The role combines sound judgment with hands-on execution and supports external agency partners and paid amplification used to build awareness and credibility.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Integrated Media: Identify media opportunities aligned to company priorities and approved messaging; Lead earned media strategy and manage the PR agency relationship; Manage the paid media plan to amplify announcements, thought leadership, and high-credibility content; Ensure earned and paid activity is disciplined, factual, and aligned with approved narrative and positioning (40%)
  • External Communications Execution: Execute external communications in alignment with the corporate narrative, ensuring consistency and accuracy across media, public forums, and external-facing platforms; Support company-wide external communications during moments of visibility, change, or growth (20%)
  • Website Content: Create and maintain foundational website content that reflects the approved corporate narrative; Partner with Digital Platforms & Channel Operations to ensure content accuracy, governance, and ongoing maintenance (20%)
  • Speaker Readiness: Prepare subject-matter experts for media interviews, speaking engagements, and public forums; Build and manage a speakers’ bureau, approved messaging, and guardrails; Ensure speakers represent the company accurately, credibly, and consistently (10%)
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner closely with -Content and Creative within Marketing Strategy & Growth, Legal and Compliance; Flag risks, inconsistencies, or emerging issues in external representation (10%)

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in related focus, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Business (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

  • 7-10 years of experience in external communications, media relations, or related fields (Required)
  • Experience managing PR agencies and external partners 
  • Experience creating a paid media plan and overseeing paid media budgets
  • Strong editorial judgment and experience supporting executive communications
  • Comfort operating in regulated or high-visibility environments
  • Financial Institution and/or B2B experience preferred

Additional Information

Base salary: $85,000-$120,000

Position is eligible for an annual bonus incentive program.
