BuildOps is looking for a highly skilled Engineering Manager to help lead our key engineering project initiatives, working in collaboration with a Product Owner. This candidate will join a well-funded, fast-growing technology startup with the unique opportunity to help build out a critical function for the company.
What You’ll Do:
- Partner with Product to design and deliver high-quality solutions
- Lead and mentor engineers on sprint planning, estimations, and scope delivery
- Architect and build scalable, reliable systems for our Field Service ERP platform
- Design, develop, and maintain backend applications and data workflows
- Work with databases to model, store, retrieve data, and implement migration strategies
- Implement pub/sub workflows to decouple services and integrate with external systems
- Ensure backend processes are reliable and maintain high data integrity
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews and cross-squad collaboration
- Deep understanding of AWS services: EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Lambda, SNS, and SQS
What We Expect:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 8+ years in backend server-side development, with 2+ years as a squad lead or manager
- Expert in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js environment)
- Skilled in database modeling, data migration, and complex query optimization
- Experience with background processing systems (Queues, Pub/Sub, Streaming), idempotent logic, and eventually consistent processing
- Proficient with Docker; familiar with Terraform (nice to have)
- Strong experience with AWS (MySQL RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, SNS, SQS, ECS)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalability principles
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and testing skills (TDD and integration tests)
- Comfortable working independently or collaboratively
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule - Monday/Friday WFH, Tuesday - Thursday, in office
Nice To Have:
- Familiarity with the commercial contractor industry and related domains like construction, procurement, or accounting software
- Experience with service-oriented SaaS platforms
- Comfortable working with open-source languages such as Java or Python
