About the Job:

LaunchDarkly is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to play a key role in building a new product line on the Release Monitoring team. You’ll be part of the Release Observability group, which is focused on making every release safer, faster, and more reliable. Our mission is to redefine how software is released: automating release processes, measuring the real-time impact of feature rollouts, and simplifying debugging when things go wrong. From automated release pipelines to metrics monitoring, error tracking, and fully automated rollbacks, our work ensures every code change is measured, and the entire release process from rollout to issue mitigation is managed for maximum efficiency and reliability.

As the engineering leader of the Release Monitoring team, you’ll be helping us harness the power of LaunchDarkly’s Observability SDKs that power our customers' applications, and aggregate all the data to measure user impact, and use them to make smart decisions about releases. In this role, you’ll balance technical leadership and people management as you drive the development of impactful user-facing features and foster a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture. You’ll work closely with product, design, and backend teams to create delightful and performant web experiences.

If you’re interested in building the systems that help software teams ship safely at scale, we’d love to work with you.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the portfolio of your team’s work, appropriately managing everyone’s time and assigning them to the highest priority work.
  • Help your team make design and architectural decisions to ensure success.
  • Anticipate the growth of our service and keep your parts of the service healthy.
  • As part of our you-build-it-you-run-it culture, all developers may be responsible of support applications in production, including on-call.

Along with your colleagues in Product Management and Design, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a team of full-stack engineers through hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Partner with Product and Design to define a roadmap that balances feature delivery, operational health, and bug fixing as well as scope new features.
  • Guide architectural decisions and contribute to code reviews and technical designs.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, continuous learning, and inclusivity.
  • Help your team understand their mission and how they fit in with the overall business goals.
  • Advocate for the team’s technical needs and ensure alignment with company-wide goals.
  • Stay current with technologies and software development trends, and drive their adoption where appropriate.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in a formal engineering management role.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building modern web applications.
  • Experience guiding technical architecture and growing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to track and drive metrics, and the wisdom to understand what they can and can't tell you.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A thoughtful, empathetic approach to leadership and collaboration.

About LaunchDarkly:

Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business but reality has proven otherwise. Slow, inefficient development cycles, costly outages, and fragmented customer experiences are preventing developers from building their best software. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages
  • Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts
  • Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize
  • Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types
  • Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability
