Dotdash Meredith is looking for a Software Engineering Manager focused on frontend performance engineering with a demonstrated track record of mentorship, innovative thinking, and technical excellence. You will work in a collaborative Agile environment to support and maintain high performance standards of the in-house web framework powering the company’s 40+ brands.
As the technology leader on your scrum team, you will be responsible for helping to set technical direction, realizing your ideas in code, and collaborating with other groups within the organization.
Hybrid 3x a week- NYC
In-office Expectations: This position is hybrid in-office, with the ability to work remotely for up to 2 days per week.
About The Positions Contributions:
Advocate for and implement the latest web performance standards and best practices on our custom server-side component framework. The framework is built on Java but leverages SCSS, Freemarker templates, XML, and JavaScript (ES6+) on the front-end, with VueJS increasingly used for more interactive components
Lead other developers, including on brand support teams, to investigate, solve for and remediate production performance issues.
Drive discussions about project architecture from a performance standpoint and provide recommendations to improve pagespeed.
Collaborate closely with the business owner, SysOps, DevOps, and the data team to build tools/dashboards to promote effective observations of site performance both in production and within the CI/CD pipeline.
Evaluate the performance of potential 3rd-party integrations.
Lead initiatives like code reviews, brown bag learning sessions, etc to improve engineering excellence for the team as well as external teams.
Manage and mentor developers on your team, to grow their skills and prepare them for increased responsibility.
Experience:
6+ years in a front-end or full stack web development position; experience working as full-stack developer and a deep understanding of the request/response/render lifecycle for websites.
2+ years managing engineers.
High levels of skill with HTML, CSS, SCSS, and vanilla Javascript; significant experience with one or more other languages.
Experience with monitoring systems/tools like Google Search Console, WebPageTest, Catchpoint, Lighthouse, or CrUX; a solid understanding of Google’s core web vitals (LCP, FID, CLS) and how they map to user experience; and a track record of improving the customer experience using these tools
Significant experience with at least one server-side templating language - think JSP, Twig, Handlebars or the PHP templating in WordPress. Alternatively, experience working with a component-based web framework, particularly one with a server-side templating aspect (e.g., Vue+Nuxt).
Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:
Comfortable using the tools of modern collaborative Agile+Scrum SDLC, including Git, Jira, etc
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with various stakeholders involved.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure

Pay Range
Salary: New York: $180,000 - $200,000The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Dotdash Meredith’s total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
