We are seeking a passionate and technical Engineering Manager to lead the new Identity Core engineering team at SoFi. You'll play a pivotal role in designing, building and maintaining mission critical system(s) that will power all of SoFi as well as enable us to to launch new commercial offerings.The ideal candidate is forward-thinking and hands-on, demonstrates exceptional ownership, is intellectually curious, dives below the surface to identify the root cause, and is an outstanding leader and mentor.
The Team You Will Join:The Digital Identity group is the trusted owner of all customer identity data at SoFi. We are dedicated to collecting, protecting, and distributing critical data that allows SoFi to recognize and support customers throughout their digital product experiences. We handle highly sensitive customer data and are committed to privacy and security, moving towards a zero-trust architecture. This particular team will focus on the Identity Core Layer, which establishes a high-fidelity source of truth for customer and business identities and their relationships.
As an Engineering Manager for the Identity Core team, you will own the full-stack technical planning, roadmap, and delivery for your team, including team building and performance management. You will work in a highly collaborative environment, engaging closely with cross-functional Product, Design, and Engineering teams, and will be involved in the entire product lifecycle – from ideation through deployment, with continuous improvement at every stage.
What You'll Do:- Lead and Grow Your Team: Manage a team of engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and collaboration. You'll be responsible for hiring, performance management, and coaching team members for their professional development.
- Drive Technical Strategy, Design & Execution: Own the planning, technical output, and delivery for the Identity Core engineering team. This includes hands-on design and coding to build new foundational identity components, and evolving systems toward a modular, scalable, and secure platform. Your work will establish a high-fidelity source of truth for entities and their relationships within a complex system.
- Ensure Data Integrity and Quality: Champion data integrity by building systems that ensure identity attributes are high-quality, verifiable, and accompanied by appropriate metadata. Your team will be crucial in providing a single, consistent source of truth for identity data across the organization.
- Collaborate and Influence: Establish and leverage strong relationships across the department and cross-functional leadership teams, partnering closely with product and other engineering teams to integrate Identity solutions and define product and technical strategy.
- Problem Solve and Innovate: Operate with a high degree of independence to solve ambiguous and complex technical problems. Drive initiatives from inception to completion, contributing to the long-term architectural vision and continuous improvement of the identity platform.
- 6+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, mission-critical systems with a SOA architecture.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineers.
- Proficiency with at least one object-oriented programming language (preferably Java or Kotlin).
- Knowledge of REST API, design patterns, and scalable containerized systems and microservices.
- Demonstrated experience in hiring, training, motivating, monitoring, and coaching team members.
- Strong sense of responsibility; driving initiatives from inception to completion.
- Strong problem solver and have solid production debugging skills.
- Experience with Agile SDLC methodologies.
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others, and get stuff done.
- Exposure to highly regulated environments, ideally building systems in the Fintech space.
- Prior experience using Java, Spring, Postgres, AWS, and Kubernetes.
- Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (gradle, git, automated testing and deployments).
- Experience with Snowflake, Datadog as well as infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Previous experience building platform-level frameworks and components in a large codebase.
