Team - The Agent Productivity Tools (APT) organization is a vital part of Coinbase’s Enterprise Applications and Architecture org, Our mission of build a unified and secure compliance platform that leverages cutting edge technology supplemented by human expertise to proactively surface, investigate, and prevent illicit financial activities, enhancing agent productivity, reducing user friction, and supporting the Coinbase goal of bringing a billion users on chain. The APT organization is responsible for building the customer experience platforms that streamlines the customer service and compliance processes with innovative services, tools and applications that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CX agents
Role - We would like to add an Engineering Manager to help extend our platform at Coinbase in supporting Coinbase’s goals of improving security, compliance, and cost. You will be joining an agile and tight-knit team that is focused on delivering value. We are seeking individuals who thrive in a continuous learning and high level of ownership environment.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Wear multiple hats of Customer Experience, CX Agent Experience and Technology leader to deliver secure, scalable and efficient compliance tools.
- Collaborate with third-party vendors to evaluate innovative solutions, driving build-vs-buy decisions that enable Coinbase to iterate quickly and leverage industry innovation.
- Build and manage an engineering team and guide the development of essential product features and underlying infrastructure.
- Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and chart a fulfilling career path.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, cross-org stakeholders and senior leadership to turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to break down complex projects into smaller pieces and iterate on their design and implementation.
- Be a thoughtful technical voice and support your team in making diligent architectural decisions.
- Work with our talent organization to source and hire amazing engineers who will expand the Coinbase culture and product.
- Contribute to owning and delivering processes that drive engineering quality and meet our engineering SLAs.
- Create an environment where innovative ideas are regularly generated, vetted, and transformed into action.
- Foresee potential issues before they arise and adapt their own approach, working within constraints to avoid adverse impact.
- Communicate across the company to technical and non-technical leaders with ease via weekly and monthly program updates.
- Quickly distill complex technical themes so that an entry level, non-tech team member can understand them.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
- At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
- You know what high quality code — and software engineering processes — look like and know how to foster an environment that creates them.
- Execution focused with an ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Ability to do both long term thinking and short term planning.
- Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
- Passion for human interface tools, ensuring they are efficient, effective, and enhance overall user experience.
- Passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together
- Strong agile mindset, able to orchestrate technical resources in a resource challenged environment
- Proven ability to build order out of chaos, with minimal guidance
- Create and maintain foundational infrastructure libraries utilized by every engineering team in production (e.g., Coinbase Server Framework (CSF), rate limiters, memcached / MongoDB clients, circuit breakers, observability integration, etc.)
- Experience in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CircleCI, BuildKite or similar
- Experience in any two of SQL/NoSQL DBs, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, MQ
- Proficiency in Ruby or Golang

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$186,065—$218,900 USD
