About the Role

As Virta enters its next stage of growth, helping members adopt metabolic changes that lead to better health outcomes has become a key focus area. The Adoption team combines AI innovations with human judgment from our coaches and clinicians to ensure members feel supported and ready for success as they begin their Virta journey. We're seeking a strong engineering manager to help deliver on this mission while developing engineers' careers, driving positive team culture, and partnering with product, engineering, design, and analytics teams on experimentation and delivery excellence.

Responsibilities:
  • People Management & Team Dynamics. Mentor, guide, and support the team members towards healthy dynamics by fostering a positive and collaborative environment.

  • Career Development & Growth. Create individualized development plans, identify & facilitate training, workshops, and other growth opportunities. Recognize & reward outstanding performers. Provide performance feedback.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration & Communication. Bridge the gap between engineering and other departments ensuring clear communication. Work closely with product, design, AI, and analytics functions along with various stakeholder groups. Advocate for what the team needs for success.

  • Process Management & Improvement. Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes through feedback, retrospectives, iteration, best practices, and prior experience. Help refine our methodology towards the sweet spot between the team's needs and the company’s goals.

  • Technical Strategy & Decision-making. The focus is on management, but understanding the technical landscape is essential to ensuring key technical decisions are in alignment with business objectives and broader technical strategy. Inform individual team members technical growth.

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams

  • Experience delivering value to end users and internal stakeholders

  • Proven ability to define and track engineering metrics to quantify team health

  • Able to understand business metrics (KPI, OKR) and put them in context to the team

  • Experience building collaborative, high performing teams in a remote environment

Bonus Points For…
  • Experience delivering impactful Gen AI features

  • Building and delivering multi-platform applications in React Native or similar

  • Experience with Go or Python, Monolith-to-microservices patterns, event driven architectures

  • Familiarity working in a regulated industry, particularly healthcare

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Familiarize yourself with the team and its stakeholders. Understand roles, responsibilities, strengths and improvement areas, aspirations. Get a pulse on team dynamics, understand expectations, and collaborations, with an eye towards what to safeguard and where enhanced coordination is needed.

  • Enhance team processes. Review the current process, intended outcomes, and methodology of your team and the teams in the group. Bring your expertise to identify inefficiency, risk, and ways to enhance delivery or team health.

  • Align the learnings from above with the product roadmap and technical roadmap to start building a strategy for your team that melds the short-term and long-term goals of the team with that of the larger organization or the business. Have a plan to iterate on this strategy over time.

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. For this role, the compensation range is $174,537 - $225,413. Information about Virta’s benefits is on our Careers page at: https://www.virtahealth.com/careers.

As part of your duties at Virta, you may come in contact with sensitive patient information that is governed by HIPAA. Throughout your career at Virta, you will be expected to follow Virta's security and privacy procedures to ensure our patients' information remains strictly confidential. Security and privacy training will be provided.

As a remote-first company, our team is spread across various locations with office hubs in Denver and San Francisco.
