About the Role
Otto Aviation is seeking a dynamic engineer to support the design, development, and integration of environmental control systems, including bleed air inflow, cabin pressurization, air conditioning, and air distribution. This role will also support additional propulsion related systems as needed, to include engine integration, fuel, and fire protection. This role will cover a broad range of engineering functions and activities. You will join a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aviation is seeking first principles engineers that balance creativity with experience while working within an effective team atmosphere.
What You'll Do
- Conduct trade studies for optimized form, fit, and function of aerospace fluid systems to include detailed system layouts and airframe integration in CATIA 3DExperience.
- Create both experimental and production digital product definition for components, assemblies, and installations, to include dimensions, materials, and processes necessary to fully define the configuration, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, performance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with cross functional teams to define and validate ECS/propulsion interfaces with adjacent systems and structures.
- Define system requirements in line with Otto’s mission objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee supplier integration activities.
- Support systems development through preliminary design, detailed design, integration, and qualification phases.
- Generate, review, and/or approve system safety analysis, schematics, specifications, test plans & reports, and compliance documentation.
- Define and show compliance for responsible systems to 14 CFR Part 23 regulatory requirements and interface with certification authorities.
- Work with maintenance and operation experts on meeting reliability and maintainability targets.
- Oversee component, system, and aircraft level functional testing, including ground and flight test.
- Maintain and report on activity schedule and technical status.
Who You Are
Education
- B.S., in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in the design and development of aircraft environmental control and propulsion systems
- Knowledge of FAR Part 23 certification requirements and processes pertinent to the environmental control system.
- Knowledge and experience with RTCA D-160G and SAE ARP4754A.
- Knowledge of industry standards and hands-on experience.
- Experience managing supplier relationships.
- Minimum of 500 hours utilizing CATIA V5, V6, or 3dx
- Experience with fabrication methods of high and low pressure metallic tubing and ducting, and composite ducting
- Experience with ASME Y14.100 Drawings and Y14.5 GD&T
- Experience with model and drawing checking, engineering part and model release, and engineering change process

Where You'll Be
**This role will be remote with travel required once every 4 weeks to our current headquarters in Ft Worth. It will then transition to an on-site position at our new location in Jacksonville, FL, within 1-2 years.
