About the role:

CLA is looking to hire an Employment Tax Senior for our Talent Solutions practice. The Employment Tax Senior engages in client consultations and employment tax assistance around payroll tax law, payroll tax filings, and amendments. They will serve as the internal subject matter expert (SME) for U.S. payroll taxes. The Employment Tax Senior will work closely with CLA’s Talent Solutions Human Resources Systems and Payroll team and CLA’s Business Operations Outsourcing team.

As an Employment Tax Senior, you will:

  • Tax Management: Work with CLA’s ADP payroll hub clients relating to taxing issues, and project manage issues directly with ADP to assist in resolving. Aid clients on proper U.S. employment tax treatment and resolution to resolve payroll tax issues. Assist with client state registration and assess employment tax issues as they arise.

  • Technical Resource: Serve as firm wide resource for payroll/employment tax assistance, including support for the firm’s payroll tax help group, development of payroll tax resources and training materials to support payroll service team members and the firm, and as a consultant for special project work.

  • Process Management: Provide insight into the development of best practices, policies, and procedures to ensure client experiences are consistent and of high quality as it relates to all tax filings. Researching payroll tax notices as they relate to our ADP payroll hub clients, and appropriate payroll tax amendments/abatement letters as necessary.

  • Client Service: Be a resource to clients in employment tax matters as requested. Partner with the payroll outsourcing implementation team as appropriate to ensure accurate tax setup on new payroll clients. Collaborate with payroll service team on year-end fringe benefit additions, third-party sick pay, voluntary unemployment contributions and officer exclusions. Assist on special client projects related to employment tax as requested.

  • Team Support: Participate in appropriate payroll hub team meetings. Provide training and individual support as needed.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely payroll tax filings, notices, regulations changes, payments for our payroll clients, researches and follows up on tax notices received on behalf of our payroll clients and troubleshooting accordingly including preparing amended returns. Works with Employment Tax team to process all multi-state quarterly tax filings for the department and single state filings as appropriate. Process deposit of all Federal and state taxes and utilization of state batch filings and related e-filing, either taking a lead role to file or working collaboratively with the tax team to ensure quality and timeliness.

What you will need:

  • Six years of experience in payroll processing and employment tax required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Degrees in Accounting or related field preferred. Combination of education, training and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

  • CPA, CPP or EA preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Office products, including MS Excel (or other spreadsheet experience), and HCM/payroll software is necessary.
