This role combines hands-on newsletter publishing with lifecycle marketing strategy, and is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of journalism, audience engagement, and performance marketing.

You’ll manage our editorial newsletter operations and own the marketing email workflow, ensuring our newsletters are sharp, timely, and aligned with The Verge’s voice, while also using data and segmentation to drive engagement, subscriptions, and reader loyalty. You’ll work closely with editors, designers, audience development, and product teams to deliver campaigns that serve both editorial and business goals.

This role reports to the Director of Audience and Subscriptions and collaborates across the Consumer Revenue, Editorial, Growth, and Analytics teams.

WHO WE ARE

The Verge is an ambitious multimedia effort founded in 2011 to examine how technology will change life in the future for a massive mainstream audience.

The Verge is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Oversee the day-to-day editorial newsletter process, partnering with writers and editors to ensure high-quality, on-brand sends across flagship and vertical newsletters.
  • Own and execute The Verge’s marketing email calendar, including campaigns that support audience growth, editorial launches, seasonal promotions, and subscriber retention.
  • Lead segmentation and targeting strategies to personalize newsletters and marketing sends based on user behavior, content interests, and lifecycle stage.
  • Plan, build, QA, and deploy lifecycle campaigns such as onboarding, winback, renewals, and other automated journeys.
  • Collaborate with editorial, design, and product teams to craft email experiences that reflect The Verge’s editorial voice and design sensibility.
  • Develop and maintain an A/B testing roadmap to optimize subject lines, content, design, and send timing for performance.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on key metrics (open rates, CTR, conversions, unsubscribes) and deliver actionable insights.
  • Maintain list health and compliance with privacy and legal standards
  • Contribute to the long-term roadmap for email at The Verge, including tooling, automation, and audience development opportunities.

WHO YOU ARE
  • 3–5 years of experience managing both editorial newsletters and marketing email campaigns, ideally within a media or publishing environment.
  • Deep understanding of audience development, lifecycle marketing, and newsletter strategy.
  • Proven experience with Sailthru and CRM platforms.
  • Strong editorial judgment and experience working closely with journalists or content creators.
  • Solid grasp of email marketing best practices: segmentation, personalization, A/B testing, automation, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in email analytics and reporting tools; ability to translate data into recommendations.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable editing copy, collaborating on design, and working within tight deadlines.
