Job Responsibilities:
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Health & Safety and/or Environmental Studies or Ergonomic related field or equivalent work experience.
- Five (5) years experience in the above disciplines in the automotive or related manufacturing industry.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office. Ability to create spreadsheets, and enter into, and understand, complex spreadsheets and advanced Excel functions.
- Must be detail oriented and particularly attentive to producing accurate work.
- Understanding plant operations and process flow as related to Health, Safety, Ergonomic and Environmental requirements.
- Ability to work well in a fast paced environment and with a variable workload
- Strong organizational, planning, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate a maturity of judgement, leadership skills, attention to detail and exceptional organizational, listening, communication and presentation skills in all aspects of the job function.
- Excellent math skills with the ability to apply to cost and analyze data.
- Ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment in order to meet customer requirements
- Must be able to interact effectively with other team members
- Able to appreciate and maintain proper level of confidentiality, using discretion and tact.
DUTIES:
- Institute, train, coordinate, and structure Emergency Response Program
- Ensure Emergency Response program drills are completed annually
- Implement Forklift "Train-the-Trainer" program, ensure required departments have adequate trainers to train, and maintain materials of training for audit purposes.
- Maintains and confirms LOTO training documents are in order. Delivers LOTO overview from the Safety side.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HS&E programs policies and standards used to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace injuries, illness, disease, and adverse environmental conditions
- Ensures there are sufficient Certified First Aid personnel on each shift, coordinates training, and maintains records
- Present safety orientation to new employees. Ensure "One Point" lessons are added for orientation review.
- Responsible for the maintenance of OSHA requirements including employee training and maintenance of the SDS system
- Leads Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) with the resolution of concerns, update lost time statistics
- Facilitate timely return to work from BWC absences. Liaison with employee, HR and supervisor.
- Provide direction for occupational hygiene concerns and hazardous material management (S.D.S) and ensure requirements are followed
- Maintain all Physical Demands analysis and hazard assessments as required by Magna Safety audit requirements
- Maintain all ergonomic assessment information and work with the Manufacturing department to ensure ergonomic assessments and action items are in place
- Conducts HS&E training and awareness meetings and co-ordinates training from outside sources
- Address all employee concerns and inquiries to ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees is practiced in all interactions and dealings
- Maintains Health & Safety bulletin which includes posting of First Aid and CPR certificate holders (with photographs) for the purpose of identification by plant personnel
- Maintain all safety related filing; document and maintain safety related action plans document accurate statistics on frequency, severity, lost time, Work Instructions, LTD data for KPI Meetings.
- Maintain required HSE internal database for safety and energy needs.
- Record and maintain JHSC minutes of all meetings
- Purchase safety supplies by working with MRO
- Ensure PPE vending machines are stocked properly per work areas with PPE. Works directly with Vendor and MRO to ensure process and products are available and completed.
- Provide documentation and accountability in support of investigative findings and conclusions.
- Participates and collaborates in audits and follows-up with corrective actions.
- Assists in coordinating of health, safety, ergonomic and environmental training of personnel as it pertains to their position.
- Champions the Joint Health, Safety, Ergonomic & Environmental Committee; and makes recommendations as required.
- Assists with the development and maintenance of the divisions' health, safety, ergonomic and environmental policies/procedures and ensures communication of same through various means of communication i.e. Employee meetings, brochures, memo notices, electronic methods, etc.
- Participates in the investigation of accidents/incidents and follows up with the applicable leader to ensure completion of recommendations. Cooperates in the preparation of material/evidence for use in hearings and insurance investigations.
- Analysis of health, safety, ergonomic and environmental statistics and makes recommendations as required.
- Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery.
- Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001).
- Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA. Follows and ensures Company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.
