ROLE SUMMARY
The DSRD Necropsy and Histology Technician is responsible for performing accurate, high-quality necropsy/histology in all aspects of rodent and non-rodent study work with moderate guidance/supervision.
He/she understands, complies with and applies Necropsy/Histology goals, SOP's and Guidelines including all regulatory, EHS, and IACUC requirements. He/she possesses basic knowledge in veterinary anatomy and histology that he/she uses to support daily tasks.
With guidance from colleagues and under supervision, he/she participates in projects to support the work group and team goals (e.g. data and/or specimen quality control, user guides, standard operating procedures, lesson plans).

The salary for this position ranges from $21.36 to $35.59 per hour. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports study set up to prepare for necropsy and histology portions of non GLP and GLP studies.
- In a structured environment, trains to fully support necropsy and histology techniques as outlined in our SOPs and directed by study protocols
- Communicates with the pathologist and laboratory manager to ensure proper collection, handling and submission of specimens, as well as, proper handling of all supportive documentation, including chain of custody forms for outsourced work
- Ensures proper use of and preventative maintenance of equipment and laboratory space
- Ensures full traceability of his/her work and of specimens
Qualifications
Must Have
- HS degree with 0-3 years of relevant experience OR A.S Degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience
Nice To Have
- B.S with 0-1 year of relevant experience
- Good Laboratory Practice Proficiency
Technical Skills Basic Requirements:
- Foundation in general laboratory skills and processes
- Understanding of standard operating procedures (SOP)
- Compliance with lab safety and personal protective equipment guidelines
- Able to recognize, document, and resolve data errors
- Able to multitask while maintaining a high level of efficiency and quality
- Basic technical knowledge and/or skills of relevant disciplines (histology, animal science)
Technical Skills Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technical skills
- Necropsy or tissue collection
- Histology: microtomy, tissue processing, paraffin embedding, histology slide staining techniques
- Experience working in a GLP lab environment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- The position requires performing ex vivo work and therefore the colleagues must be able to wear appropriate PPE, including a respirator.
- They must be able to physically perform the technical procedures that may require lifting, sitting, standing, walking, and bending.
