About the role

We are looking for a Director, Technical Training to join our Central Operations team at Riot Platforms. In this role, you will own the design and delivery of all technical training programs across our data center and critical infrastructure operations. You will build the competency frameworks, certification pathways, and hands-on curricula that enable our teams — including technicians transitioning from Bitcoin mining operations — to operate at world-class data center standards. You will deploy and manage a Learning Management System (LMS), partner with OEMs and vendors for specialized training, and serve as the primary driver of technical capability development across the organization.

Travel up to 40% for site-based training delivery, needs assessments, and vendor and OEM collaboration across Texas and Kentucky locations.

What You'll Do

  • Design and deliver end-to-end technical training curricula covering all site roles including data center technicians, electrical, mechanical, and operations personnel
  • Lead the transition of mining operations technicians to data center operational competency through structured skills gap analysis and targeted training programs
  • Develop and administer a comprehensive technician certification program with defined competency levels and assessment criteria
  • Deploy, manage, and optimize a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver, track, and report on all training activity across the portfolio
  • Build and maintain a vendor and OEM training catalog, coordinating specialized technical training for critical systems including power, cooling, and networking infrastructure
  • Conduct training needs assessments across all sites to identify skill gaps and prioritize curriculum development
  • Establish training effectiveness metrics and reporting mechanisms to demonstrate ROI and inform continuous improvement of programs
  • Partner with Standards & Governance, Operational Readiness, and RCA & Continuous Improvement teams to ensure training reflects current SOPs and lessons learned
  • Build relationships with industry training bodies, certification organizations, and academic institutions to expand program offerings
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing technical training team

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in technical training, learning & development, or workforce development, with at least 5 years in data center, critical infrastructure, or mission-critical facility environments
  • Proven track record of designing and scaling technical training programs and certification pathways in a multi-site, operational environment
  • Deep understanding of data center operations including electrical systems, mechanical and cooling systems, network infrastructure, and DCIM/CMMS platforms
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing LMS platforms (Cornerstone, Docebo, SAP SuccessFactors, or similar)
  • Experience building training programs for frontline technicians and skilled trades personnel in a regulated or standards-driven environment
  • Familiarity with data center industry certifications and frameworks including CDCP/CDCS, Uptime Institute, CompTIA, NFPA 70E, and OSHA standards
  • Strong instructional design skills with experience developing both in-person and eLearning content
  • Demonstrated ability to build programs from scratch and develop talent in a high-growth, fast-moving environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Education, Instructional Design, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Certifications preferred: ATD Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD), CDCP/CDCS, or equivalent industry credentials

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Base salary range $190,000 – $215,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) with Immediate Vesting: Generous company match
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options that include 100% employer-paid premiums.
  • Wellness & Lifestyle Perks: Enjoy free gym memberships, pet insurance, childcare discounts, and more to support your life both in and out of work.
