The Job:
As a Director, Tax Planning, you’ll be part of our Corporate Finance Team, working as a remote employee. This role is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of global tax planning, M&A, and business unit initiatives. As part of the Tax Planning & Controversy team, this individual will collaborate with tax teams located in the United States, Europe, and Asia as well as other finance, treasury, legal, and operations individuals throughout the organization You’ll get to:
- Support U.S. and global tax planning, M&A, and other business initiatives by performing tax due diligence, tax research, legal entity structure review, and all manner of tax technical support.
- Proactively identify internal opportunities for cash and/or effective tax rate savings via attention to detail and acquiring deep understanding of the many businesses of Stanley Black & Decker, and its associated organizational, supply chain, financing, and intercompany structures.
- Prepare and/or review computations necessary to properly analyze the tax considerations of planning, M&A, and internal transactions, including, but not limited to: stock and asset-level book and tax basis calculations; earnings and profits calculations; and analyses with respect to any other anticipated local, foreign, or U.S. tax impacts of transactions.
- Act as internal thought leader on enacted or potential U.S. tax law changes and where required model associated impact to the Company.
- Team with tax department members across multiple jurisdictions in the development of the Company’s response to Pillar Two.
- Evaluate tax planning strategies with respect to cash flows and other treasury related items (hedging transactions, debt structures, etc.).
- Coordinate with the tax accounting team to identify the possible impact, if any, of transactions or other items on the Company’s financial statements, including FIN48 positions.
- Interface with the tax compliance team to ensure the details of tax planning strategies and acquisitions/divestitures are properly reported in the Company’s income tax filings.
- Take accountability for details and make thoughtful assumptions where ambiguity exists; succinctly communicate conclusions with keen understanding of materiality and risk to know where emphasis should be placed.
The Person:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- CPA, JD, or advanced degree in taxation
- At least 7 years of relevant tax experience (industry, law firm, or public accounting)
- Strong federal tax technical knowledge on both domestic (including consolidated return regulations) and international matters
- Familiarity with U.S. tax compliance, including domestic and international forms
- Prior experience with enterprise software such as SAP or HFM
- Experience with non-U.S. tax jurisdictions and regimes
- Tax accounting knowledge and understanding of impact of tax on financial statements
