About Tava

If you could spend your time doing something truly meaningful, chances are you’d choose work that could change people's lives for the better. At Tava Health, that's exactly what we do every day. Tava Health is a Series B startup, focused on scaling access to behavioral healthcare. We make meaningful connections between providers and clients accessible and easy by partnering with organizations to bring high-quality mental health care to their employees, members, and communities.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Director of Strategy & Analytics to drive and elevate how our company uses data to drive decisions. This is a unique opportunity to be the senior-most data leader in a growing, venture-backed startup — owning the vision, setting priorities, and ensuring data are both accurate and actionable.

You’ll lead a small but high-impact data team — setting strategy and managing execution — while also directly delivering on analyses and insights yourself. You’ll work closely with the executive team and regularly provide input that shapes company strategy and informs board-level discussions.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable structuring a business case in a strategy session as they are structuring a SQL query to validate it. You thrive in ambiguity, bring clarity to complex problems, and design solutions that scale.

What You’ll Do

Set the Data Agenda

  • Partner with leadership to identify and prioritize the most impactful analytics initiatives.

  • Proactively surface new opportunities to use data to improve business performance, spotting trends, risks, and insights before they’re requested.

  • Prioritize incoming data requests based on strategic fit and challenge assumptions to ensure we’re answering the right questions.

  • Define and communicate a clear roadmap for the data team, aligned with company goals.

Deliver Insights that Influence Strategy

  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations tailored to different audiences, including the executive team and board.

  • Guide the team in uncovering deeper drivers and the “so what” behind results.

  • Directly produce high-quality analyses and dashboards when needed — working alongside the team to meet critical priorities and ensure timely, accurate outputs.

Lead and Build the Data Function

  • Manage, mentor, and develop our Senior Data Analyst — and grow, lead, and inspire the team as it expands.

  • Collaborate with data engineering to design and maintain scalable, reliable data infrastructure.

  • Establish clear analytical best practices, sense-check outputs for accuracy, and resolve data integrity issues.

  • Create the processes, tools, and governance to scale from a nimble startup team to a high-performing analytics function.

Implement Data Governance and Best Practices

  • Establish a single source of truth for key metrics by organizing, cleaning up, and maintaining our reporting tools.

  • Develop and maintain a company-wide data dictionary and consistent metric definitions.

  • Implement processes to proactively identify and address schema or data source changes before they break reporting.

  • Establish and oversee processes for regularly auditing and deprecating outdated or redundant reports and dashboards.

Act as a Cross-Functional Partner

  • Operate with the mindset of a product manager for data — scoping requests, clarifying requirements, and managing trade-offs.

  • Translate business problems into data questions, delivering insights that drive measurable outcomes.

  • Communicate trade-offs, timelines, and limitations effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For
  • Background in strategy, analytics, or data leadership, with experience in management consulting (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain) or a similarly rigorous analytical environment preferred.

  • Proven ability to influence strategy through data — getting to the “so what” and driving changes that generate measurable business impact.

  • Skilled at leading and mentoring analysts while producing high-quality analyses yourself; strong SQL skills required, with Python, R, or similar as a plus.

  • Experience managing BI/analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Metabase); familiarity with dbt is a plus.

  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and storytelling skills — able to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Highly organized, process-driven, and comfortable building structure in an ambiguous, resource-limited environment; startup experience is valued.

Actual title and compensation are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Why You’ll Love Working at Tava
  • Competitive salary and stock options (so you share in the company’s success).

  • Fully-covered medical and dental premiums for you and your family, plus voluntary insurance options.

  • Free, generous Tava mental health benefit — of course!

  • Monthly HSA contributions for qualifying enrolled employees.

  • Generous PTO and paid holidays.

  • Paid parental leave.

  • 401(k) retirement plan.

  • Weekly company-paid lunch via DoorDash and a personal DashPass subscription.

  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact at a high-growth, mission-driven company.
