About the Role

The Director, Safety & Compliance is responsible for leading TTX's employee health, safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory compliance functions. This role oversees the development and execution of company-wide safety programs, training initiatives, compliance reporting processes, and risk management strategies.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner to leaders across the business, helping ensure safety and compliance considerations are integrated into operational decision-making, strategic planning, and process improvement efforts.

This position also provides leadership and development for the Safety team while serving as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and safety consultants.

 

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute TTX's enterprise safety and compliance strategy.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of employee health and safety programs across all operating locations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations, including OSHA, FRA, and other relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee organizational safety training programs and ensure timely completion of all required regulatory training.
  • Direct incident investigations and corrective action programs to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to proactively identify hazards, compliance gaps, and operational risks.
  • Partner closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, human resources, and leadership teams to strengthen safety culture and accountability.
  • Lead compliance reporting processes and ensure accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness of safety documentation and records.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, regulatory agencies, consultants, and industry organizations.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging regulations, and best practices to ensure TTX maintains a proactive approach to safety and compliance.
  • Drive process improvement, technology adoption, and automation initiatives that improve reporting, compliance management, and operational effectiveness.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop safety professionals while fostering a high-performing team environment.

  • Build trusted partnerships with business leaders and influence decision-making through sound judgment and expertise.
  • Develop and mentor talent within the Safety organization.

 

What You'll Bring

  • Deep expertise in occupational health and safety, compliance management, and risk mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, including OSHA, FRA, and related transportation or industrial safety requirements.
  • Experience leading incident investigations, corrective action programs, and compliance reporting activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across multiple business functions and leadership levels.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience developing safety metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools that drive business action.
  • Proven experience leading organizational change and safety culture initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage employees, leaders, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong process improvement mindset with experience implementing systems, automation, and operational efficiencies.
  • Commitment to ethical leadership, accountability, and continuous development.

 

Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety, regulatory compliance, environmental health and safety (EHS), or related functions.
  • Experience within the railroad, transportation, manufacturing, heavy industrial, logistics, or field operations environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Safety Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH, or equivalent credentials are highly desirable.
  • Experience managing teams and developing safety professionals.
  • Experience presenting to executive leadership teams and working directly with regulatory agencies or external auditors.

Travel Requirements

Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time across North America. Travel may exceed 75% during the first 90-120 days to support onboarding, relationship building, and operational immersion. Regular travel to field locations, repair facilities, and corporate offices is required.
