A little about us

Yahoo Finance serves millions around the world who rely on us for clear, trustworthy money and market coverage. Some of us are market junkies, some of us just love storytelling, but all of us are here to make Yahoo Finance the most trusted and engaging business media brand in the world.  Our programming team sits at the center of that promise — deciding in real time which stories to feature on its website, mobile, and app.

Yahoo Finance is seeking a Director, Editorial Programming to lead content programming across our owned-and-operated surfaces, including its homepage, mobile web, app, and push notifications. This leader will oversee the team responsible for how Yahoo Finance presents and distributes content in real time, while also building the systems and standards that grow audiences and overall content engagement. This is a senior leadership role for someone who can translate editorial judgment into platform strategy, develop teams, and partner closely with product and content stakeholders.  You'll set the vision and standards for the team, but you'll also be in the tools every day — driving decisions on lead stories, improving framing,, and identifying coverage gaps in our content plans.

What you’ll do
  • Own the editorial programming strategy across Yahoo Finance’s website, mobile web, app, and push notifications, setting the vision, standards, and decision-making framework for how content is surfaced, packaged, and distributed.

  • Lead the push notification function, with clear ownership of strategy, audience targeting, cadence, breaking-news protocols, and performance expectations, using data to refine the editorial strategy.

  • Manage, mentor and develop an editorial team across multiple time zones, setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback and building a high-performance culture grounded in continuous improvement.

  • Own the team staffing and schedule, ensuring strong coverage across hours, platforms, and major news cycles, and making sure the team is consistently staffed to meet the demands of a fast-moving, high-volume news operation.

  • Own programming KPIs across the website, app, push notifications and make analytics the backbone of how the team operates — using Chartbeat, internal dashboards, Google Discover, search, and social signals to drive real-time decisions, shape longer-term strategy that translates the numbers into clear takeaways and next steps.

  • Partner with product and engineering to shape the roadmap for push capabilities and programming tools, advocating for better targeting, testing, analytics, automation, and editorial controls.

  • Create distribution plans in advance for major news moments and company priorities, helping set the content vision and priorities.

  • Build strong partnerships across editorial, video, social, SEO, product, engineering, and analytics to align priorities, improve workflows, and ensure programming strategy is fully integrated into Yahoo Finance’s broader audience strategy.

  • Establish operational frameworks and editorial standards for leveraging AI tools to accelerate real-time headline optimization, push alert drafting, and multi-surface story packaging without compromising editorial accuracy.

  • Own programming KPIs across web, app, and alerts, embedding AI-driven audience analytics and recommendation systems to translate real-time data into daily decision-making.

  • Oversee the assessment, curation, and programming of the thousands of partner content pieces flowing into Yahoo Finance each day alongside YF’s original journalism, ensuring the right mix of voices, topics, and quality across every surface.

Who you are
  • A natural editorial leader with sharp news instincts — calm and decisive under pressure, organized, and over-communicative; the kind of leader people want at the wheel on a chaotic news day.

  • A people-first manager who genuinely enjoys leading and building teams: you set clear expectations, develop talent, and give direct, useful feedback.

  • A true player-coach — as comfortable setting strategy and standards as you are jumping into the tools when the desk needs a hand.

  • Highly collaborative with cross-functional partners, able to influence product, engineering, analytics, and executive stakeholders with equal confidence.

Required qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in digital news, journalism, or audience-facing editorial leadership roles.

  • 7+ years of direct people management

  • Proven news judgment in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with a track record of leading coverage through major breaking news events across multiple digital surfaces.

  • Strong understanding of digital programming fundamentals: homepage editing, headline and image selection, SEO best practices, and push notification strategy.

  • Experience working closely with product and engineering partners on CMS tools and editorial workflows.

  • Comfort with analytics tools (e.g., Chartbeat, Google Analytics, internal dashboards), using data to inform programming decisions and drive performance accountability.

  • Willingness and ability to support a 24/7 news operation, including occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends around major financial and news events.

  • Strong understanding of analytics and audience-development tools, with the ability to convert data into clear strategic decisions, experimentation plans, and performance accountability.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across editorial, product, and executive audiences.

If you're excited about helping shape the most trusted guide to wealth-building, and about leading the team that decides what tens of millions of people see first when they open Yahoo Finance — we'd love to meet you.
