As a Director for Private Infrastructure investments your role will be focused on leading deal team due diligence efforts in sourcing, approving and monitoring private fund and joint venture equity investments in transportation, power, digital, social infrastructure, conventional and renewable energy. Additionally, you will support the asset management of existing portfolio holdings including representing Nuveen on the board of portfolio companies and on LPACs.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare for and attend sourcing, investment committee presentations, and monitoring & surveillance meetings
  • Act as a deal lead on the due diligence process for new fund investments and co-investment opportunities. Direct deal teams of junior associates and analysts on relevant performance analysis, financial modeling and transaction structuring for co-investment opportunities. Drive legal documentation, negotiation and investment structuring.
  • Source transactions through industry contacts and assess them through the investment funnel to adequately assess portfolio fit and team resource capacity.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis for investments to share with external clients, internal business partners including portfolio managers, legal, and compliance.
  • Portfolio activities include firm representation at investor board meetings and portfolio management reviews with the portfolio manager and external clients. Will engage in a variety of governance topics including annual budgets, business plans, financing and other capital raising discussions, company staffing needs including compensation, legal and compliance matters
  • Work closely with senior staff in the research and analysis (including financial modeling through the investment life) on various infrastructure and energy related investments including macro and portfolio trends; These investments may include preferred equity and direct equity in energy transition assets (including power and transmission), transportation assets and digital infrastructure investments.
  • Lead the underwriting and analysis for primary GP fund commitments and co-investments
  • Work with internal business partners to ensure all legal, compliance, and accounting requirements are being met
  • Prepare internal memoranda and other materials used to support investment and portfolio recommendations and to communicate with internal constituents and external clients
  • Closely monitor and manage the performance of existing portfolio investments, including regular communication with management teams, investment partners, and financial sponsors
  • Maintain investment performance databases and files
  • Engage with internal and external business partners to stay on top of portfolio activities and drive value creation opportunities and downside protection for the portfolio

Educational Requirements

  • University (Degree) Preferred

Required:

  • 3 + years of institutional private equity investment experience with an emphasis on direct joint ventures, GP fund commitments, and co-investments.
  • Prior investment experience with infrastructure assets.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA or CFA
  • 8 + years of institutional private equity investment experience with an emphasis on direct joint ventures, GP fund commitments, and co-investments.
  • Proven ability to drive multiple portfolio investment decisions in a time critical, asset oriented environment.
  • Knowledgeable in current trends, success factors, industry participants and structure terms across the infrastructure and energy investment markets.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and using financial statement analysis and financial modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and finance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work hard in a team-oriented, performance-based environment.
  • A self-starter that requires limited oversight in the completion of individual projects and managing deadlines.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
