Rockbot is a remote-first company of ~120 employees operating across 35 states and 86 cities. We’ve intentionally designed our culture and operating rhythms to support a distributed workforce - and as we grow, that design must evolve with greater rigor, clarity, and operational discipline. Operating at this scale adds both complexity and opportunity. Our people infrastructure must be as intentional and scalable as our business model.

We’ve built a strong cultural foundation and are entering our next phase of growth. For the first time, we are aligning department goals directly to company objectives - raising the bar on clarity, accountability, and performance across the organization. We’ve modernized our systems, implementing Paylocity as our HRIS and payroll platform and Carta Total Comp to support leveling frameworks and market benchmarking. Now, we’re ready to fully leverage that infrastructure to drive performance at scale.

We’re now hiring a Director, People to architect and scale the systems that enable high performance in a distributed organization.

This role reports to the VP, People and owns the infrastructure that drives clarity, accountability, development, and consequence management across the employee lifecycle. Recruiting is owned separately. This leader focuses on what happens after great talent joins - ensuring standards are clear, managers are equipped, and performance is actively managed.

This is a true builder role - strengthening what exists and engineering what’s required for scale.

What You’ll Do:

Engineer High Performance

  • Design, launch, and continuously evolve a scalable performance management framework (design → rollout → iteration)
  • Define and operationalize what high performance means at Rockbot — by role, level, and impact
  • Establish clear goal-setting, feedback, and accountability rhythms across the organization
  • Partner with leaders on talent planning, succession, development, and performance accountability
  • Ensure compensation calibration and leveling frameworks (Carta Total Comp) reinforce performance standards

You believe performance isn’t accidental - it’s designed, measured, and reinforced.

Scale the Employee Lifecycle

  • Architect scalable lifecycle systems (onboarding → development → retention → transitions)
  • Strengthen HRIS and people infrastructure (Paylocity and integrated systems) to ensure data accuracy and operational reliability
  • Identify friction points across the employee experience and redesign workflows for clarity and efficiency
  • Build processes that confidently scale from 100 → 300+ employees without losing accountability or culture

Turn Data Into Action

  • Define and track the people metrics that matter - performance, retention, mobility, engagement, and organizational health
  • Translate insights into practical action plans leaders actually use
  • Establish disciplined reporting cadences and raise the bar on operational rigor
  • Leverage technology and emerging tools to improve visibility, efficiency, and decision quality

Who you are:

  • 8+ years progressive HR / People experience
  • Have built performance systems from the ground up
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and raising standards
  • Data fluent - but not data dependent
  • Calm under pressure
  • Direct, clear, and fair
  • Motivated by building infrastructure that lasts
  • Experience operating in remote or distributed environments

This role is ideal for someone who has scaled organizations from ~100 to 300+ employees and understands how to build durable people systems before growth compounds complexity.

We operate with urgency and high standards. This role requires comfort in fast-moving environments where clarity, accountability, and execution matter.
