Opportunity for Impact

We are seeking a Director of People to lead our people operations and strategy as we grow. This role is a unique blend of hands-on operational HR execution and strategic leadership, touching every aspect of the employee lifecycle. You will be responsible for establishing  new systems and refining existing infrastructure to support the scalable growth of our People Operations.

As a technology-powered healthcare delivery company with a multi-entity structure—comprising a corporate entity and a professional corporation (PC)—Mantra’s workforce spans engineers, marketers, clinicians, and clinical operations teams. The ideal candidate will have the ability to navigate this complexity and support a highly diverse and distributed workforce while leveraging our existing PEO platform (JustWorks).

This position also offers a unique opportunity to be mentored by a seasoned healthcare startup fractional Chief People Officer, who will provide onboarding support and ongoing development opportunities through 2025. You will have support of our Operations Coordinator who also supports Marketing and Finance.

What You’ll Do

  • People Operations Excellence: Oversee core HR operations, including payroll, benefits, compliance, and employee data management, leveraging Mantra’s PEO (JustWorks). Manage the complexities of a multi-entity structure (corporate entity and PC) to ensure compliance across jurisdictions while maintaining smooth operations for a diverse team of clinicians, engineers, marketers, and operations professionals.
  • Performance and Career Development: Partner with our Leadership Team and our fractional Chief People Officer to build transparent systems for career growth, role expectations, and performance management. In this partnership, you’ll run performance management and develop structures to support employees’ professional aspirations and provide managers with coaching and tools to guide their teams effectively.
  • Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure compliance with labor laws, policies, and regulations while maintaining best practices across all HR processes.
  • Culture and Employee Engagement: Drive initiatives to foster connection and alignment to Mantra’s core values, creating a thriving workplace culture that supports team members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Talent Acquisition and Onboarding: Partner with our talent acquisition team in recruitment efforts to attract and onboard exceptional talent, ensuring an inclusive and high-quality candidate experience.
  • Manager Enablement: Provide hands-on training and tools to empower managers to lead effectively, covering areas such as coaching, feedback, and professional development.
  • Strategic Partnering: Collaborate with leadership to design and implement people strategies that align with organizational goals and priorities.

Who You Are

  • HR Generalist Expertise: 5+ years of experience across the full spectrum of HR functions, with a mix of operational excellence and strategic contributions. Operating experience in other functions is highly valued.
  • Builder and Problem Solver: Thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment where you can build processes and systems from scratch while maintaining flexibility and adaptability.
  • Data-driven and Process Oriented: You look to data to drive decisions and orient to systems and processes to ensure consistency, repeatability, and scalability.
  • Multi-Entity Knowledge: Familiarity with multi-entity structures in healthcare or similarly regulated industries, with an ability to ensure compliance and smooth operations across jurisdictions.
  • Collaborative Change Agent: Proven ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams, fostering trust, alignment, and teamwork. You grasp context and nuance while driving forward change that sticks.
  • Values-Driven: Deeply aligned with Mantra’s mission, vision, and values, with a strong commitment to improving mental health care access and outcomes.
  • Eager Learner: Excited to receive mentorship and develop as a strategic leader with support from an experienced Chief People Officer.

Why Choose Mantra

  • Opportunity to design and lead critical HR functions within a mission-driven organization.
  • Hands-on mentorship from an experienced Chief People Officer to accelerate your growth as a people leader.
  • A chance to collaborate with a passionate, dedicated, and innovative team focused on transforming mental healthcare.
  • Exceptional opportunities for professional growth through leadership development, mentorship, and strategic contributions.
  • Competitive salary and benefits, including PTO, equity, and a flexible work environment.
